Re: tiny sa ultra zs407
To: Kurt Poulsen,?
Hi Kurt, a quick question: The very excellent Ultra Menu Tree document you published back on Aug 10, 2024, then current to ver 1.4.176, while mostly still up to date, lags behind the version updates to ver 196 including the new ZS-407 instrument. Any plans to update this in the near future? It was such a well thought out document that it would be invaluable to both new and old users alike. Can the Tinysa Ultra's RF output be calibrated in generator mode?
Hello. First of all, congratulations on a great job with the Tinysa ultra. I have the ZS405 version with firmware 1.4-192 and I would like to discuss a topic with you. The frequency accuracy in RF generator mode. I have checked the output at different frequencies and there are errors which are the following: 1MHz +6.5Hz; 10MHz +3.8Hz; 50MHz -8Hz; 100MHz -23Hz; 200MHz -51.4Hz; 300MHz -81Hz; 500MHz -142Hz; 800MHz -242Hz; 1GHz -350Hz; 2GHz -611Hz; 3GHz -900Hz I cannot check beyond 3GHz because the Tinysa ultra does not have enough dBm output for my GPS-referenced frequency counter and the preamplifier I have only reaches up to 3GHz. |

TinySA Ultra (405) - maximum detectable GHz?
#ultra
I'm working on resurrecting a Wiltron 6600 series sweeper (10 MHz - 18 GHz) with multiple problems (I think it was a combination of salvage parts).
My old systron donner 762-2A spectrum analzyer (and a 436/8484 power meter) have been helping, but it occurred to me that the TinySA Ultra might help (as in detecting presence of a signal) as well, and perhaps aid in validating the sweeper's output (through appropriate attenuators; the YIGs can kick out +15..+20 dBm.) I'm curious as to how the original ("405"?) version Ultra can be expected to behave when encountering a (single) signal (a sort-of stable carrier from a fundamental-mode YIG oscillator) far above the ~5 GHz Ultra-mode ceiling? I suspect this has been covered (either by developer, by experimenter, or both) but my searches in the group archives didn't yield anything that might apply. Thanks! |
Re: tiny sa ultra zs407
Hi DL2ECL,
?
Set TinySA ULTRA harmonic for frq. you need to cover:
CONFIG / MORE / EXPERT CONFIG / HARMONIC
?
TinySA ULTRA frq. limits:
2. harmonic? 7.722 GHz
3. harmonic 12.072 GHz 4. harmonic 16.422 GHz 5. harmonic 20.722 GHz ?
The signal levels at these frq. will not be correct, additional calibration will be required. However, this SA (ULTRA) is quite useful for checking the presence and shape of signals up to 20 GHz and is quite accurate in frequency.

Re: tiny sa ultra zs407
You don't need to do anything special
Just select the frequency range of interest up to 12 GHz and it will scan the selected frequency range
If you want to go to 18 GHz you have to change the harmonic from 3 to 5 in the expert config.
Of course don't expect absolute power level measurements

tiny sa ultra zs407
开云体育Hello. I am a radio amateur. Mostly I build and repair my own? transverters. The tiny sa ultra is just fine for servicing my gear right up to 6 cm? (5760 MHZ). ? I also need to work on my transverter 3 cm ( 10368 MHZ). The comparison table for different models of tiny sa ultra show? for zs406 and 407 that one can use ? ?some kind of harmonic mode.It would be wonderful for 3cm But how do you do that?Sweeping in harmonic mode...So I need information...how and where.. . I would even buy a second tiny sa ultra and this time the newest ultra plus zs407 , but I first have to know about my possibilities on 3cm.Thank you for any help. ? ? |
Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-
Markus,
Its best to copy/paste picture, not attach.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I understand the issue and there may be a solution however the possible solution needs a lot of testing to avoid unwanted side effects.
It is on my TODO list

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-
Dear Eric,
?
thanks for clarification concerning the usable FW for the ULTRA+ SA.
?
In my exported spectrum from QtTinySA the LNA was enabeled when
using FW -196-.
?
I give it a try to attached again the Pic made in the hope it would be
now scaled in a better way.
?
Thanks for your effort.

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-
No,
Release V1.4-195 is the first public release FW which is suitable for the ZS-407
When you buy a ZS-407 it may contain an older FW version but that may a special version created before production start.
The bump you are seeing is a small spur which is within the spec.
After enabling the LNA the bump should go down about 20 dB
