Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Just as an aside my new model 407 recently arrived with V1.4-192 FW installed, now upgraded.

Re: Touch screen not working after update

I had a similar failure, also coincident with an upgrade, which left me with a white screen. Re-seating the cable restored the correct display.
Best regards, Don Brant

Re: Touch screen not working after update

That did it thank everyone for the suggestions especially Erick. Happy to be back in operation.?

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Thanks Erik for your effort and for the confirmation that its seams to be a real issue and not only based on my fault in operation.

Try reseating the LCD cable, this has helped several people

Markus,
Its best to copy/paste picture, not attach.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I understand the issue and there may be a solution however the possible solution needs a lot of testing to avoid unwanted side effects.
It is on my TODO list

already tried that several times and several older versions with no luck.??

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Dear Eric,
?
thanks for clarification concerning the usable FW for the ULTRA+ SA.
?
In my exported spectrum from QtTinySA the LNA was enabeled when
using FW -196-.
?
I give it a try to attached again the Pic made in the hope it would be
now scaled in a better way.
?
Thanks for your effort.

Re: Touch screen not working after update

go back to an older version and see if that works.

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

No,
Release V1.4-195 is the first public release FW which is suitable for the ZS-407
When you buy a ZS-407 it may contain an older FW version but that may a special version created before production start.
The bump you are seeing is a small spur which is within the spec.
After enabling the LNA the bump should go down about 20 dB

Re: Touch screen not working after update

Tried suggestion but no change still no touch screen function and no menu displayed. I recall seeing the word touch displayed in the top righthand corner of the display when it flashed several times after restarting the unit when I did the update.

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Dear Erik,
?
one additional question, in order not to cause confusion with the mentioned observation.
?
Could you confirm, that FW version tinySA4_v1.4-175-xxxx could by used with the ULTRA+
as in the case where I see a flat spectrum on the other had I get a Test-9 failure, but when
using FW tinySA4_v1.4-196-xxxx the Test-9 pass properly but the spectrum at test frequency
of 500MHz 10kHz span is not flat but has the small level increase at the center frequency.
?
Hopefully you could follow my description as I'm not a native speaker - sorry.
?
Markus

Re: TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Hallo dear Eric,
?
sorry I mad proper pic's but the import to the forum
reduced the image resolution.
?
What concerns the test parameter, please se below.
?
(center 500MHz, span 10kHz, RBW 1kHz)
?
The issue I mentioned is the fact that I could not observe
a flat spectrum on the display, but see the level increase
where the center frequency is located.
?
It seems to me that that could be a FW issue - right?
Do you need more information's on this observation to
reproduce it with your device?
?
Sorry if not being precise enough with my report.

Re: Scanning for unknown mobile phone

Ha,
?
For that sort of scenario, I once made my own Nonlinear Junction Detector (NLJD), based on a pair of Motorola Analogue cellphones placed in "Engineering" mode by internally strapping the battery contacts, and connected to an external duplexing filter and log periodic antenna.
?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonlinear_junction_detector
?
It worked surprisingly well, but rusty metal conduit and similar items, embedded in walls, could often lead you astray.

Re: Scanning for unknown mobile phone

How does a smartphone app work in a baby monitor mode? Baby monitor's are continually transmitting and I doubt this would be done over a cellphone call. Does it transmit over wi-fi and if so what is the destination receiver?
I use a baby monitor app when I’m tuning my home antennas. The app is called Baby Monitor. It can use audio, video or both. I have the app on my iPhone and iPad. In the shack I put the iPad in baby mode and face the camera towards my Rig Expert antenna analyzer. I take my iPhone with me and tap parent mode and it connects to the iPad and I can adjust my antenna and watch the Rig Expert analyzer for proper tuning. Either device can be connected to a network via WiFi or the cellular network. My iPad is only WiFi but the phone obviously has both. There is just a little bit of lag so when you are adjusting the antenna you have to adjust and then wait a couple of seconds to see the change on the analyzer.?

I’ve never left the iPad on indefinitely and tried to connect so that could be something that happening with this guy.?

TinySA ULTRA vers TinySA ULTRA+ - FW issue in release -193- & -196- but not -175-

Hi TinySA experts,
?
I'm observed an issue comparing the Ultra+ (ZS-407, V0.5.4) vers the old ULTRA (HW V0.4.5.1.1).
I purchased two devices of both HW Versions, so my tests were run on four devices.
The ULTRA+ device shows independent of used FW Ver. -193- and -196- and independent of remote
control or direct screen operation the attached spectrum (center 500MHz, span 10kHz, RBW 1kHz)
After some experiments with different and older FW I figured out that the observed behavior is not
HW related but only observed when using FW release -193- or -196- but is nor occurring in FW -175-

The Input is terminated with 50Ohm.
?
I attached some pictures to point out my observation.
?
Thanks in advance for checking and solving teh observed issue in a new FW release.

Re: Scanning for unknown mobile phone

Bravo Martin. ?

After 13 years of locating clandestine communications equipment, I realized not every scenario required state of the art equipment and knowledge.? I had a friend in a similar situation that called on me and I showed up with a Walabot wall scanner. ?30 minutes later, I located the implanted listening device in the wall near a suspect looking outlet and removed it.? The individual who allegedly put it there was never charged - we have to look at all option - even the simple and obvious ones. ?

Most of the time, a physical examination will locate more suspect devices than electronic means, but it is VERY time-consuming, and costly if you get a professional to do it for you, but even then you can't be 100% certain you are in the clear, as so many companies outsource the work, and you never know how competent the technician may be.
?
Devices used at a corporate / government level are even harder to find, and 20 odd years ago they were already incredibly sophisticated, so goodness knows how much more advanced modern day devices are likely to be.
?
However, it still remains a lot easier to obtain information by other means, particularly though various forms of social engineering.
