Re: The upper part of the signal goes up when I activate the lna

Some go up, others not.
Are all signals constant level?
Is this also happening at other frequencies?
Otherwise no clue what is happening

Level calibration is done

Re: The upper part of the signal goes up when I activate the lna

I assume you did do a level calibration as described in the wiki under first use?
If yes, at what frequency are you looking

The upper part of the signal goes up when I activate the lna

The lna is supposed to be activated to see more of the lower part of the signal, but in my case, apart from seeing more of the lower part of the signal, the upper part goes up 3 or 4 db, so I don't know what the true value is. The signals I'm measuring have values ??between -70 and -60 dbm. What am I doing wrong?

Plugging it into a windows 10 computer should automatically load the serial over USB drivers needed to communicate with the tinySA. To control the tinySA from the PC you have to download some SW, see:

Also, does it function on a Windows XP....I've got several of these with decades of technical software, and programs that were/are no longer supported and only work on Windows.
Download the PC SW on the XP machine and see if it starts.?

Re: Wrong implementation of the quasi peak measurement #bug_report

For an unmodulated signal, the QP and peak values should be identical.? And, yes, the "smoothing" is done in the time domain, not frequency domain.? I have always viewed QP as a post detection averaging or "filter".

In the two screen grabs, the peak levels are pretty much the same, but the exponential tail should not be present.? Yes, there is something not quite right with the coded UP routine.

The quasi peak?smoothing must be done in the time domain, so each frequency bin of interest must be measured separately for a certain amount of time and the?consequently taken samples need to be fed to a quasi peak detector with an attack and release time specified by?CISPR.

Re: Self Test failures from New TinySA Ultra --- Amazon purchase of ZeenKo unit from SDRGEEK Store

Ignore the post about the 30 kHz signal, it should be 30 MHz and its automatic when doing a selftest.
?
Your tinySA (clone?) is very bad quality, strongly suggest you return it and buy from authorized seller such as R&L instead

Re: Self Test failures from New TinySA Ultra --- Amazon purchase of ZeenKo unit from SDRGEEK Store

Cable is connected correctly.... CAL to REF.
?
Self test freezes at test #1...."Above Critical".
?
Repetitive screen touching advances the 'self test' routine.
?
The following tests 'Passed':? 6, 8, 9, 12, 13.
?
All others either 'Signal Level Fail': (3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 14) or? 'Above critical': (1, 2, 5,).
?
Where do I find the 30 KHz Cal signal that you are referring to?? What's the path to it?
?
?
Additional anomalies:
?
Brightness adjustment default is 70%.?? Changing the brightness with the jog wheel freezes the instrument.
?
?
Additional question:
?
The various online info infers that I can use a Windows (10) OS to interface with the instrument as soon as I insert the instrument to my USB port and the kernel/driver is supposed to be self-executable.?
?
What is supposed to happen upon insertion of the device to my USB port?
?
?
Thanks.

v1.4-185 Changelog SA ultra

The changelog on FW download page does not have v1.4-185 (FW dated nov 6 2024)
-185 is about 4kB bigger than -177
What's new or fixed in -185 ??

Re: Choosing an attenuator

dBm is shorthand for dBmW, with dBm as typical unit for Rx ports on measuring instruments.
dB is just a scalar, for attenuators we still need the power handling spec. 30dB 10w, 20dB 5w, etc.
I guess along the way the Rf folks stole the minus sign and shoved it into the word "attenuate". In technical terms, the actual electrical result is? -dB.
?
-dB attenuate, "attenuated 30dB"
+dB amplify, "amplified 30dB"
?
Such oddity in words. ;)
?
I am curious about OP's transmitter. Is the Tx port 50 or 75 ohm?

  • Aursinc on Amazon
  • SeeSii store on Amazon
Are the only stores on Amazon that are on the approved list.

SDRGREEK STORE is not on the approved WiKi list of dealers it may be possible that you may, have a knock-off or clone.
Which selftest failed? Did you preform the signal level setup? Did you connect port 1 and 2 correctly? Did you turn on the calibration signal to 30khz?
You need to give more info than just the selftest failed.
