Re: Detecting a noise source
You have an excellent tool to trace it.
Set the span to scan ( some of) the interference frequencies, eg 3-14mhz. Put the telescopic aerial on the lower sma socket. Extend the aerial and see the noise spikes on the screen, then walk around the house/ garden/ street, observing the amplitude of the noise spikes. ?As you get nearer and the spikes get larger, collapse the aerial down a bit. Eventually you might get to within a few feet. I identified a switch mode psu in the house which powered an electric reclining chair within minutes this way - one if the first uses of the device. It is possible to use handheld directional aerials ( or a mw ferrite rod aerial from sn old aerial) so that you can triagulate the source if distantly generated noise. On the wiki for the SA, you will find info on using an external lna (low noise amplifier) to increase sensitivity so as to be able to detect more distant noise sources. I am in the process of making one, which I will probably velcro to the sa case. Steve L. G7PSZ |
Message for Kurt Poulsen
Hi Kurt, Hope this finds you well.
With regard to the User Guide you produced for your presentation about TinySA in Danish language. I think you indicated you may produce a copy in english, forgive me if I missed it but would be very interested in getting a copy. I have read several of your documents and I'm sure it will be a very handy asset for the shack. Thanks in advance. Wayne VK6EH |
Re: New tinySA control program for Windows
Any possibility we have different version devices?? Mine's Version info says: tinySA v0.3 Version: tinySA_V1.0_61_gff54300 Build Time: Aug 26 2020 - 09:13:04 Kernel: 4.0.0 On Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 11:51 PM stefan baartman via <seb21051=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: New tinySA control program for Windows
Tried Default, no change. Avoid using the "Admittance" plots, they will lock up your app. Requiring a new download possibly. -Stef. On Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 11:47 PM hwalker <herbwalker2476@...> wrote: On Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 07:25 PM, stefan baartman wrote: |

Re: New tinySA control program for Windows
Yup, the capture screen works fine. Will have to noodle with it some more. Could you show your settings window? Also, have you updated your Tiny in any way? I do get this when I select TDR Linear S11 On Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 10:02 PM hwalker <herbwalker2476@...> wrote: On Mon, Sep 21, 2020 at 06:42 PM, <seb21051@...> wrote: |

Hi Herb, I used the settings I see on your example to the letter, but no luck yet. How did you get that pic of the device in there?? Sorry you are still having no luck with a scan.? The program has a 'Capture Screen' button on the left hand side of the screen which pops up a screen capture window.? I just overlaid that window on top of the chart.? You might try doing a screen capture just to prove to yourself that everything is connected correctly. - Herb |

Dave, DfuSeDemo can only be used to back-up your current firmware or load new firmware.? If you want to view your current correction data you have to do the following: From a serial terminal enter 'correction' and the tinySA should respond with your current correction factor table, refer to this wiki page:???. - Herb? ? |

Hi Herb, I dropped a screenshot in reply to Erik's request. I have my device set at 240-900 MHz since there is some activity on 750 and 850 MHz around here. When I select Log Mag S21 I get nothing. To get the black trace at 10dB I have to select log Mag S11 and S21. Curious and interesting.? I hadn't used the control program on the high port yet, but I just tried it and it seems to work - as shown in the following screen shot.? As you can see selecting Log mag S11 and then the 'Single' or 'Scan' controls results in a trace of the tinySA display.? Selecting Log mag S21 and then the??'Single' or 'Scan' controls gives you a solid line because the active trace data is contained in S11 and not S21.? Give the settings below a try and see if they help. ? ? ?- Herb |

Re: New tinySA control program for Windows
Yes if he gets stuck I'll guide him if he needs it. There is like 20 or 30 thousand lines of code (or more) there I've already written for the VNA past month or so, so he's off to a good start there !
I fancy a holiday now though, can't go anywhere (the UK has just gone exponential again with this virus so lock downs are on their way back) but I can relax and do nothing and do what ever takes my fancy when I fancy :) |

Hi all,? I downloaded this app but am unable to get it to show a valid trace from the device. Are there any settings I should be changing to have it read? All it does is give a black solid trace at the 10dB level. If I select log mag S21 from the drop-down box (as in the following screen shot), I will get a solid trace but not at 10dB level.? The active trace is S11 in the tinySA control program and has to be selected in the drop-down box (or select log mag s11 and s21).? Give that a try.? Use the example below for other settings. - Herb |
