Re: New tinySA Ultra FW release: time/date added to status panel

Erik,
In an ideal world that would be how it works. But not in my case.
I¡¯m in dentist chair at the moment. I¡¯ll try with a different?computer later?today.?
Also, Malware Bytes software really doesn¡¯t like your website.?

I¡¯ll try with a bare computer without my antivirus software.

Thanks for the response.?

Start STM32CubeProgrammer and click on the button in the red circle. Make sure "USB" is selected in the button left of CONNECT and click on "No DFU" to select a USB port listed, you may have to click the refresh button to the right to refresh the list of ports, and once "No DFU" has changed to something like "USB1", click CONNECT

Now the window will look like this:

Use the BROWSE button to select the downloaded tinySA.bin file
Leave all settings as shown above and click START PROGRAMMING
After some seconds the nanoVNA-H4 will reboot and start up as a DMTD

Re: New tinySA Ultra FW release: time/date added to status panel

I'm trying to update the FW in my original tinySA before the Ultra.
In STM32, first I get the readout protection message.
I check the "Read Unprotect" box but then the program tells me to power off/on the device.
I do that, get back into DFU mode, USB1 but when I try to connect, I once again get the power off/on message.

What am I missing?

I'm not seeing mention of this in the wiki or am I missing it?

Guys,
Many thanks for all your responses.? I think you have more than adequately answered my question.? Well done on the product release.? I suspect that the increased resolution will excite many hams: order placed!!

and with some IMD caused by overloading the built-in LNA.
Do NOT use the LNA when doing IMD measurements and set to maximum internal attenuation

Also low power and full power (with appropriate attenuation, of course).

Re: Will the TinySA Ultra allow me to examine SSB modulation? #specifications

You might want to run a 10 kHz span.? Tones 1 kHz apart would put the third order IM products +/- 3 kHz.? I don't believe a 5 kHz span will catch either one with the tones more-or-less centered.? If offset, maybe one at a time?? Also, what was the output power with 2X1 kHz spaced tones?? -55 dBc is pretty good for the average transceiver even for the second order IM products which should show in your 5 kHz span.? However, if you are using pre-distortion, such a reslt is possible.

Hi guys,

As a radio ham, transceiver builder and a proud owner of the original TinySA, I can say that one feature I would have liked in the TinySA is the ability to examine my SSB modulation (see this thread /g/tinysa/topic/74067552#143).? So, I'm encouraged by what I see in the specifications of the new Ultra, with its narrower RBW of 300Hz.

My question then is to anyone who has performed these kinds of measurements.? What are your impressions? Does it meet your expectations and are there any caveats to be aware of?

The smallest RBW is 200 Hz.? So you can test your SSB transmitter for IMD and harmonic distortion with narrow spaced tones.? Here is a tinySA Ultra screenshot of two -71 dBm tones that are 1 kHz apart in the 20M band.? Span is set to 5 kHz. "Lobe shape" is effectively the plot of the 200 Hz. RBW filter. 200 Hz. is -3 db width

Got my shipment notification yesterday too. USPS picked up today (in OH). Hoping it arrives before our monthly Satellite Amateur Radio Club (VSFB) meeting on Saturday. It would be a nice show-and-tell. ??

I have both NanoVNA and the NanoVNA-H4. The H4 is even more impressive than the original. I've seen a couple of YTs on the tinySA and I'm very intrigued. I'm raring to sponge up any and all info on it!
I already have an IFR-A-7550 with TG, but it's limited in many modern overlay features (markers, for one). For the price, the tinySA looks like it needs to join my bench.

Hi,

Earlier I shined the light of perspective n the wait for the new model -
been waiting 50 years (at least) for this and a few more days is
insignificant. Then other hams started telling of shipping notices from
R&L. I didn't get a notice so I considered how insignificant three more
weeks would be - maybe in time for Christmas. My shipping notice was in
my email this morning. R&L seems to be busy :)

There's a man named Robert Einstein at some interesting perspectives on time but not necessarily waiting.? He wasn't the ham but he probably would have enjoyed a tinySA.
