Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply...i'm using a windows 10 PC BTW...but the TinySA is not continuing so i have to repower...and nothing appears in the app... Regards, Bjern |

Hello Bjern,
I have just been learning this myself.? I found that live scanning in the app works very well, but when you activate the live scan in the app it causes the tinySA to "pause" on its screen.? But it is still scanning.? In other words, you can only see the scan on either the tinySA or the app.? Also, when you change parameters in the app it causes the scan to stop and the display will go wonky, but just start the scan again.? Once the communication is established it is quite solid.? The only time I found the system "crashed" was when I tried to change the RBW in the app.? Then everything hung and I had to re-power the tinySA. I don't know if these behaviors are "normal" or not, but that is my experience (running the app in a Windows virtual machine). -- Eric |

Please post a screenshot of the tinySA-App after it freezes the tinySA -- For more info on the tinySA go to https://tinysa.org/wiki/ |
New user, some pollite questions

Hello All,
I'm new to the forum (and the incredible TinySa...) and spend a great part of the day to search for my problem but somehow i'm lost: I've downloaded the TinySA-app, never updated the firmware, but when in the app i tried to sweep (scan) some band, it freezes the TinySa and nothing appears in the sweep-screen in the app...i have to switch off and on the TinySa to get my sweep again running on the Tiny.... Who can help me out, i'm a complete novice so a step by step instruction would be very helpfull... Thanks in advance, and forgive my english, (i'm dutch and 66 years old :-) ) Regards, Bjern Snelders.. |
Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration

Geez, people, what is it about online forums that gets everyone so riled up?? I had some specific questions, and pointed out how I'm running the software.? Is it necessary to get into a shouting match?
Maybe the Parallels VM version of Windows is the cause of the GUI strangeness, maybe not. ? I'm not enough of an expert to argue about the differences, but in my experience over years Windows often runs *better* in Parallels than it does on an actual PC--especially back in the Win7 and earlier days.? I prefer the Mac laptop and need Windows for various work-related apps, never had a problem with any of them. I did discover that the config auto-saves when you quit.? It would be nice if the button actually worked, but not a big deal.? It's a nifty little program, thank you Erik! |
Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration
#tinysa
The settings don't save by clicking the 'button' but do autosave on exit.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the GUI at all as can be seen. |

Can we go back to the original issue.
Does anyone else have problems with saving settings? -- For more info on the tinySA go to https://tinysa.org/wiki/ |

No, someone giving very sensible advice regarding giving all the relevant information when asking about a problem.Another God? Who tells veryone what they can or can't do? Regards Jeff |

It is extremely important that you mention this as you are not running on native windows. Major difference.? Run it on a REAL windows machine. If you still have issues then ok. If not then it is your system and not an issue with the program. |
Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration

Huh?? The program is tinySA-app, which is provided by Erik, the tinySA developer.? It's available on the tinySA website and is quite handy.? The fact that I'm running it in a Windows virtual machine has nothing to do with the program.? The Windows VM in Parallels is just like running on a PC, as far as the app is concerned.? I only mentioned that in case someone might be interested that it works well.

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration

Why would the developer even attempt to support a Windows program running on some emulator on a mac ?

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration

Hi Rudi,
Thank you for responding and for that information.? But taking a screen shot of the SA is not my issue.? Both parts of my question are about the Windows app.? The first part is about saving the configuration, and the second part is about a problem with the GUI. It seems like the config .ini file is updated when I quit the program, which is okay.? I have now attached a screen shot of the GUI problem in case the developer wants to see it. |

screen shotHello Eric, For MacOS (Catalina) I have a Python3 program to create a tinySA screenshot. The program "nanoVNA_tinySA.py" needs several modules. In order to make it easier to use I have used "pyinstaller" to make a runnable version for MacOS. Because this package has a size of 33.1 MB, you can download it from https://www.dropbox.com/s/6e4i6kixyxnlvj3/nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS?dl=0 Usage in the MacOS terminal: $ cd to the program folder $ nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS -C <filenamw.png> Example: $ cd <folder path> $ nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS -C test.png The tinySA must be connected via USB to the Mac. You need no driver. Appended is the screenshot file "test.png" and the Python3 file "nanoVNA_tinySA.py" 73, Rudi DL5FA |
tinySA-app.exe saving configuration

Hello,
Love my new tinySA (bought from R&L Electronics).? The Windows app is mostly working well, but it does not seem to be saving my configuration.? It did one time, and saved a .ini file, but now when I click the button I cannot locate a new or updated file.? Where is the .ini supposed to go?? I made a lot of changes to the setup so it would be great to save this as my default config! Also, FWIW, the area on the Settings page where the configuration buttons are located seems to be writing on top of the list of colors, so I'm not sure what the text boxes do.? I can send a screen shot if there is a way to upload it).? I'm running Win10 Pro in Parallels on a Mac.? Works great! Thanks, Eric (Olney, MD? USA) |
settings tiny sa for transmitter harmonics
Carlos etal, Many thanks for all of the valuable information shared in this group. A home brew 6-60db 3Mhz to 500Mhz?has been designed by ZL2PD and is published here: This could complement the 50dB attenuator described by Evan. Andrew Woodfield [ZL2PD} is a luminary of design and build of practical electronic items especially for amatuer radio operators. Please see his website and say thankyou. He takes the time to document the use, principle and construction of all of his projects in a manner mere mortals like me can understand. The hobby owes him a debt of gratitude and I will not cease singing his praises for the help his projects have given me. He is often published in the Magazine Silicon Chip: an Aus-NZ electronics magazine. Thanks and stay well everybody. Cheers John B VK3JWC Regards and thanks
