Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

The settings don't save by clicking the 'button' but do autosave on exit.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the GUI at all as can be seen.

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

Can we go back to the original issue.

Does anyone else have problems with saving settings?

Run it on a REAL windows machine. If you still have issues then ok. If not then it is your system and not an issue with the program.

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

Huh?? The program is tinySA-app, which is provided by Erik, the tinySA developer.? It's available on the tinySA website and is quite handy.? The fact that I'm running it in a Windows virtual machine has nothing to do with the program.? The Windows VM in Parallels is just like running on a PC, as far as the app is concerned.? I only mentioned that in case someone might be interested that it works well.

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

Why would the developer even attempt to support a Windows program running on some emulator on a mac ?

Re: tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

Hi Rudi,

Thank you for responding and for that information.? But taking a screen shot of the SA is not my issue.? Both parts of my question are about the Windows app.? The first part is about saving the configuration, and the second part is about a problem with the GUI.

It seems like the config .ini file is updated when I quit the program, which is okay.? I have now attached a screen shot of the GUI problem in case the developer wants to see it.

Hello Eric,

For MacOS (Catalina) I have a Python3 program to create a tinySA screenshot.
The program "nanoVNA_tinySA.py" needs several modules.
In order to make it easier to use I have used "pyinstaller"
to make a runnable version for MacOS.
Because this package has a size of 33.1 MB, you can download it from
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6e4i6kixyxnlvj3/nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS?dl=0

Usage in the MacOS terminal:
$ cd to the program folder
$ nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS -C <filenamw.png>

Example:
$ cd <folder path>
$ nanoVNA_tinySA_MacOS -C test.png

The tinySA must be connected via USB to the Mac. You need no driver.

Appended is the screenshot file "test.png" and the Python3 file "nanoVNA_tinySA.py"

tinySA-app.exe saving configuration #tinysa

Hello,

Love my new tinySA (bought from R&L Electronics).? The Windows app is mostly working well, but it does not seem to be saving my configuration.? It did one time, and saved a .ini file, but now when I click the button I cannot locate a new or updated file.? Where is the .ini supposed to go?? I made a lot of changes to the setup so it would be great to save this as my default config!

Also, FWIW, the area on the Settings page where the configuration buttons are located seems to be writing on top of the list of colors, so I'm not sure what the text boxes do.? I can send a screen shot if there is a way to upload it).? I'm running Win10 Pro in Parallels on a Mac.? Works great!

Thanks,
Eric (Olney, MD? USA)

Yes!!?
There is:?actual_freq

??????????????? sets or dump the frequency correction set by CORRECT FREQUENCY menu function

??????????????? usage: actual_freq [{frequency}]

settings tiny sa for transmitter harmonics

Carlos etal,

Many thanks for all of the valuable information shared in this group.

A home brew 6-60db 3Mhz to 500Mhz?has been designed by ZL2PD and is published here:

This could complement the 50dB attenuator described by Evan.

Andrew Woodfield [ZL2PD} is a luminary of design and build of practical electronic items especially for amatuer radio operators. Please see his website and say thankyou.

He takes the time to document the use, principle and construction of all of his projects in a manner mere mortals like me can understand.

The hobby owes him a debt of gratitude and I will not cease singing his praises for the help his projects have given me. He is often published in the Magazine Silicon Chip: an Aus-NZ electronics magazine.

Thanks and stay well everybody.

Cheers

Carlos,

In addition to Erik's directions, please be sure to use a 50DB attenuator on the input to the TinySA.? I built a 50DB tap and connected it to a 100watt dummy load.? I then use a step attenuator between the tap and the TinySA.

Here is a link to a paper on how to build a 50DB tap:

It includes a parts list.

I purchased the step attenuator from Amazon:

You will also need the adaptors to match the coax connectors.

I found the above to be easier to use than going through the TinySA menu system and adds a level of protection before you turn it on if you set the step attenuator for the maximum attenuation before turning on anything.? Overkill, but I am paranoid.

If you need to measure harmonics that fall above 100MHz, you may need to characterize the tap.? That does require a second instrument (which I highly recommend), a NanoVNA.? I adjusted the capacitor across the 50ohm resistor to keep it flat to 150MHz.? Beyond that value, I have not tried to measure a signal, so I cannot say how well the setup works above 150MHz.? That upper limit is for the Harmonic you want to measure, not the fundamental.

You can always buy a 100watt, 50DB attenuator, though they are costly unless you want to trust AliExpress.

Ok,thanks, its working perfect, measured the second harmonic on the ftdx3000 who's rated at -60 dbm down from carrier at 100w output, Tiny sa showed -58dbm,so thats perfect, carlos on6cn

Re: settings tiny sa for transmitter harmonics

You can leave everything on automatic at first
Most important is to ensure the fundamental is entering the tinySA between -30dBm and -10dBm
Then use the MEASURE/HARMONIC function, enter the frequency of the fundamental
Then use LEVEL/ATTENUATE to switch to manual attenuation and increase the attenuation till the harmonics are just measurable, e.g. the markers are on the harmonics
This ensures you are not measuring the internally generated harmonics but the harmonics generated by the trasnceiver
If the harmonics are below -60dBc (more then 60dB below the fundamental) they may be in the noise floor and you may have to reduce the RBW to be able to see them.
If the harmonics (in dBc) do NOT change when you change the attenuation up or down 5dB you can be sure you are measuring correctly?

hi, can someone tell my the settings for the tiny sa measuring tranceiver harmonics at 100w output,
like reference level in dbm and so on...... in order to achieve a more or less correct reading.
i have the neccesary attenuation , no problem there
thanks

John,

I've been getting the "4-inch" NanoVNA versions and they are much more usable.
I also have a 7-inch VNA and that is superb (at least, it will be once fixed
by the reseller) but it is much more expensive, and likely has a shorter
battery life. Today's chip prices and delivery times are not encouraging. A
larger display may create more interference (e.g. what happens on the Mahahit
receiver).

The frequency range is rather limiting, and something covering up to 4 or 6 GHz
would be preferable if a 7-inch version were offered at a much higher price.

Is there /any/ development active on the TinySA?

Cheers,
David

Hi Hugen
Nice to see you "being on the source" as well.
As I let you know your Alibaba & Aliexpress pages are "a bit dated" <eg>.
But with Erik's recommendation & your direct reply things are cleared up
(...at least for me (who is s.above. on his word with an "important XYL" <smile>)

And yes HUGEN we were contemplating just sending 10bucks directly on Erics paypal and buy xxx
(Better) Make sure you not get overtaken by one of your competition (...at least that's what it looks like from here)<BIG SMILE>

ERIK & GEORGE ...I've put an order in with "HUGEN" (as you might have guessed)

Re: SeeSiiTools Store official version - OK to buy?

This is our store

The latest version of tinySA is v0.3.1_EL, note that all tinySA produced in 2022 are v0.3.1_EL version, L means we use LQFP48 MCU, to distinguish the previous v0.3.1_E version which uses QFN48 package MCU.

As we needed to add CE and FCC marks to the new version of the label to meet the legal requirements of the different target markets, we used black label paper instead of the previous laser engraving to be able to print these labels clearly on the smaller size labels.

SEESII is one of our distributors, they buy tinySA in bulk and add their own brand logo, as far as I know, they print "SEESII" or "Elikliv" on the products they sell.

For more information about the sales of tinySA, please refer to the tinySA website.
