Re: Protecting your TinySA from damage

If you have male-to-female connector savers on your SA they make a nice handy touch point for grounding yourself when you pick up the unit.

I came across this safety/handling article by another handheld Spectrum Analyzer manufacturer and though readers might find it interesting.

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

Just tried the self test with some $900 GORE jumper cables and it passes all the time with 77, well so far. I wonder if its an noise issue, I have TONS of RFI here and the GORE is much better shielded.

Don't cheat yourself out of owning one of the finest pieces of test equipment available to the hobbyist/experimenter/ham radio enthusiast.? Buy from one of the suggested vendors:

Roger -

Mine failed right out of the box and appears to be a clone model which I had no clue existed. Shipping back to seller tomorrow and will probably scratch the idea of buying one now.

Re: Protecting your TinySA from damage.

I had some difficulty getting the link to work but copy and paste it to the Google search window worked FB.

A good read and excellent info to keep in mind for the Tinysa and the whatever flavour of Nanovna you have.

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

Hello all,

I purchased my SA from Amazon a few months ago and as far as i can tell it's the real deal?
Anyways, it never failed self test until I upgraded firmware to 77 and now it will fail about 1 out of 10 times. I will downgrade and see if I can get it to fail.
I also lined the inside with copper tape to help mitigate any outside noise.?

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

FWIW I have had no ESD issues with my early TinySA and I don't exactly baby it. It may be because after 30+ years of working with PCs both professionally and as a hobby I have developed ESD-safe habits. Or it could be because I don't shuffle my feet across the carpet and touch the antenna. :)

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

Test 12 tests the attenuator so it's normal test 12 fails. As the levels are off due to wrong attenuator some other test may be critical . Not a real problem

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

Hello All;

Hello:? ?My tinySA appears to have an attenuator issue also... it's a real unit, from R&L. I have also verified the PCB etc.?
My testing shows a large attenuator error pic 1, and pict 2 shows the same for the calibration, it looks to be about 7dB low.?
To be honest, that doesn't bother me that much, the unit works for my needs. I don't need the tinySA to take accurate field strengths or absolute measurements.

However, when I trigger the self test, I get several errors,? Pic 3.? it shows Test 1 Above Critical, Test 10 Signal Level critical. TEst 12 Attenuator Fail.
I know about the display fail, no waterfall, that's not a big deal to me.?
My question is related to the operation, what do Test 1 and Test 10 test for and negative results mean??
Is the SA just uncalibrated, or are these errors critical and will they malfunction the unit in some way??
Is there a list of the test items, and what the errors mean? A TinySA for Dummies??

Cheers!

Steve?

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

I wonder if there are some static issues. Not having a schematic I wonder if there is ESD protection on the input. An analyzer that can only be used if it is in a static free environment is kinda limited especially with a plastic case.

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

Thanks, as long is you did not have the antenna close to a transmitter antenna it should be ok

Re: New tinySA failing Self-test after FW upgrade

I hadn't had it long and hadn't used it with anything other than the included antenna and hooking it up to itself.? I suppose it could have been hit with static, but I was mindful of that when I was using it.

Re: New FW release: Corrected hang after display test fail

The self test is the diagnostics for the signal path HW and the touch test for the display/touch HW
What else do you need?

Hello Eric and TNX 4 all the hard work!!!

Have you written any diagnostic firmware to help trouble shoot these little marvels ??

Can you post a photo of the back of the tinySA and photo's of the screen of tests 6 and 8 failing
You may have a bad clone

Self Test Fail

Thanks for allowing me to join. I just received my Tiny SA this week and performed the self test diagnostics. Unfortunately there were errors present during this. I'd like to know the issue that I'm seeing and how to correct the errors. Please see attached screen shot and advise.

Thanks
Joe

Nicholas,
What type of sources have used in combination with the tinySA?
Any sources that generate possibly more than +10dB?
