Re: Measuring resonant coil outputs

What about the issue of potentially damaging the SA? How can I work out the dB of the fields surrounding the coils to best protect it? I do have one of those cheap field meters for elec and mag fields, which measures in V/m and ?T.

Re: Measuring resonant coil outputs

Yes, an important question. 10kHz - 20MHz I think is reasonable. I know the tinySA is not accurate below 100kHz but I have heard that by making some Config adjustments then it will detect them.

Re: Measuring resonant coil outputs

What frequencies are you targeting?
The supplied antenna is good for 50 MHz and higher but is a lot less sensitive for 10 MHz and lower
For low frequencies you better use a (home made) loop antenna

Measuring resonant coil outputs

Hi all,

I’m new to this group, a physicist by background but also new to using a spectrum analyser. Before I go and actually buy the Aursinc V0.3.1 model, I wanted to ask about how I might go about making measurements relevant to my research so I can be sure this is the best and most affordable approach.

To summarise, I am investigating resonance in coils driven at radio frequencies and high voltages and looking at the standing waves that result from certain coil configurations and wire lengths. To make it easier to show what I’m doing, I attach some graphics showing the circuit (without an output load), a typical coil configuration and an example of standing waves that show on a scope using a low-powered setup of 18V to the primary coil.

In particular, the queries I have are:

  • Can I detect what frequencies are emanating from the coils by using the supplied aerial placed within say 50cm of the coils?
  • What sort of attenuator would I need to cope with the high voltages and power in the secondary in particular?
  • Are there any others known about how are doing this type of measurements?
  • Will the tinySA-App work with Windows 10?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: TinySA ULTRA 4" - No longer works

Try:

Remove your SD card.

Clear configuration
Load defaults
Level calibration

The remaining errors are the same.

I wonder if there is a possibility that the firmware is corrupted in some way. Perhaps re-installing the same version of firmware might produce a clue?

Just my 2 cents!

Re: Auto Save Issues

Basically I want to save continuous traces as fast as the TinySA ultra allows until the SD card is filled. With the autosave function the fastest it goes is 1 save every 30 seconds. When I manually press trace to SD I can create a new save about every 3 seconds. My scan time for the desired data is 270 ms.? What settings can be used to make the autosave function run as fast as possible? I am not worried about using up the entire SD card rather quickly. I actually expect this.??
Best to you and thanks,
James

Re: Auto Save Issues

The fastest I have been able to get it to save is in 30 second intervals. Is faster possible? Would this require going into the internals settings? I can manually press save twice faster than 30 seconds, so I know the system has the capability to save data faster than 30 second intervals. Thank you for your response.?

Critical is not failing, just a warning some test is on the edge

Zelftest 3: signal level critical

Heb de TinySA ultra nog niet heel lang. Maar zie dat de zelftest faalt
Zelftest 3 geeft signal level critical

Ook met het vervangen van de kabel.
Ik ga er eerst maar vanuit dat ik iets verkeerd doe.
Iemand advies of heb ik zo heel snel iets opgeblazen?

With nothing connected to the inputs and all default settings (after clear config)? the screen should look in a certain way.
It should be like the first picture on this wiki page
If this is different than please post a photo where I can read the dBm scale numbers as they were very weird

Yes, I held the rotary knob on the right side and then started the device until the image appeared on the screen.
I also did it while holding rotary knob on the left side. The situation does not improve.
?
Is there any other test or electronic circuit to measure ?
(I have several Keysight lab measuring instruments)

Re: Input RF switch fault found on TinySA ultra

I managed to change my lna and input switch with a tiny iron and Chipquick removal alloy. Doubtless, I was just lucky but it can be done that way.?

Re: Auto Save Issues

Any input on how to save traces every 500 ms would be greatly appreciated. I've messed with all the settings to no avail. My best guess to to try to write a python program to tell the tinySA to save every 500 ms. Again any thoughts on solving this issue is appreciated.

So keep it pushed to the side until the full display appears.

Hi.

I did, but it doesn't change the situation.

Yes, I took a picture of that too
?
At the moment it seems that the fault is with the hardware, can the hypothesis be tested ?
