Thanks, I was trying it just yesterday, but I found the problem described here /g/tinysa/message/19418

Re: Access traces from the SD card via USB cable

QtTinySA (by Ian Jefferson), has the option to view and save the SD_card files on your computer.?
The new version of the program QtTinySA_win.zip is in :
https://github.com/g4ixt/QtTinySA/releases
Don't forget to copy the QtTSAprefs.db file to C:/users/your name/AppData/Local/QtTinySA folder.

I have tried the latest version of Nanovna released by Owenduffy (v1.1.209) , but it does not seem to have the function you have shown in the picture.

Where can I download the version of Nanovna v1.1.215 or higher ?

Re: [Amateur-repairs] Discreet built PLL query HELP please?

Be sure to check the cleanliness of your ultimate 1152 MHz LO.? Remember LO noise will also degrade receive performance in direct proportion to the amplitude of the noise pedestal.? In addition, the width of the multiplied noise pedestal will be multiplied by the SQRT of the multiplication factor, in this cast: by 3.5.? -50 dBc is pretty noisey for a quiet LO.?

I set my signal generator to 1152 MHz and took pictures with both the HP8568 and the TINY SA with identical measurement parameters (you can read those from the images).? See the attached images.

Interesting (especially for Eric) that they both show about -70 dBc to the noise pedestal.? I'm impressed with the TINY SA performance in this respect!?

Virus-free.

Hi and thanks for all your considered replies, they are most appreciated.

It was the fact that the way the operation of the EXOR gate as a phase detector seems to be explained in theory, such that when 'locked' the output pulse should be extremely narrow or non-existent as the system should only need to 'slightly nudge' the filter capacitor to keep it 'topped' up to the desired control voltage.
I was therefore confused to see a 120nS pulse when the system is locked.
I couldn't find any data regarding the input impedance of the VCXO which, if significant, may be discharging the filter capacitor causing the PFD to constantly 'pump' it back up?
Both inputs of my EXOR are driven by digital signals, one from the divided 96MHz and the other from the GPS so both fairly 'fast' square waves.
As far as I can see it doesn't seem to matter if this 120nS pulse exists. The PLL locks securely and to the correct frequency, it was just that I was surprised not to see the EXOR output disappear as the target frequency was achieved.
?
I have looked at the output on the TinyVNA and the noise is >50dB down on the signal, though the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are only 20/30 dB down. I'm not sure if this is due to the buffer amplifier at 96MHz that converts the output to 50 Ohms or a 'dirty' initial signal? Will investigate.....
As I now need to feed this through several multiplier stages up to 1152MHz, it will be interesting to see if these harmonics are suppressed by the time we get to 1152MHz?
?
Thanks for your comments.

Re: QtTinySA PC Application

Trying to run the Windows version of the QtTinySA v1.0.2 application I get the error “No module Named OpenGL” (see ).
?
The operating system is Windows10 with Python 3.13.2 installed and the addition of the dependencies required by QtTinySA (altgraph, numpy, platformdirs, PyOpenGL, PyQt5, pyqtgraph, pyserial pyton modules).
?
How can I solve ?

Great, and thanks a lot for fast reply :-)
Will order ZS-407 on Monday...

The LISTEN mode should do exactly what you request
Doing the output in zero span mode will create gaps in the output

Analog detector output in Zero span mode #feature_request

Any chance to have a analog output representing RSSI level in Zero span mode?
And/or level at cursor point on analog output.
Like a RF-detector, just much better since Rx bandwidth can be set and much high sensitivty than typical diode-RF-detectors.

Re: Invitation: How high will your tinySA Ultra go?

I measured with a Wiltron generator, Tinysa ultra 20 GHz level is -18 dB to the input, harmonic 5.
?
?
Be careful, input attenuator works better at 20-30 dB and attenuation/impedance tested with network analyzer from 8GHz onwards is not specified, anyway great job Erik. I am evaluating if it is possible to improve the first version of Tinysa at 20 GHz.

I think that the final cut judgment is by Eric, the designer of TinySA Ultra. My device is TinySA Ultra ZS-405. I will be very thankful for Erik if he will comment about this issue.

?
The real driver of AM now is USA politics where it is being mandated for all new car because of the claim it what listeners are demanding.? While there is a notable market segment for AM listeners in the USA I suspect the truth of the demand may be misleading.

DAB isn't all that good and was allready surpassed by streaming when introduced. AM and FM are much more reliable. DAB is difficult to receive, even in urban environments you often need an outdoor antenna. And in the beginning receivers where very expensive.
Here in the EU (NL) it never really took on. It than was made mandatory for new cars. And a rule was introduced that every FM broadcasting station had to deliver a digital stream for DAB. Just to push DAB to the general public.
?
Choose between the following:
- a system with wide range, low energy cheap receivers, still working with low signal with some noise and mono, good penetration into buildings.
- a short range system with high energy costly receivers, not working at all whith poor signals, mediocre penetration into buildings.
- a short range system with? many transmitters, receiver build in to your phone, good penetration into buildings.

For me DAB stands for Dead At Birth.

Hi David

The updated version I have promised you soon to work on, we may add some copyright notes to, although it might not help at all.

At least the printed manual they attach to SA-5 look nice.

Kind regards

Kurt

There seems to be no ethics with certain people when they steal the work from you and not even give credit where credit is due.? When you and I started putting this together we didn't feel there was a need to "copyright" the material because it was for the use by our group here as a gesture of our wanting to help others in our group.

?

I had an entire website stolen from me years ago that I spent over ten years building it up.? Nobody asked permission and I wrote the hijacker and he/she never responded back (wasn't expecting they would).

?

We just have to shake our heads when it comes to people like this.

What we don't want to do is release the Visio file to the public which would give a thief the ability to easily modify the document to remove our names as the author and replace it with their name and do major changes to "customize" it to make it look like their work.? Yeah, you can do some modifying of a PDF version but why make it too easy for them?!

Hi AGA001

Thank you for you comment

Actually I first now found out about the SA-5 and did see the TechMind video, where he show (and saluted) the contend of the printed manual, which is my manual ripped for any reference to TinySA Ultra and the persons involved beyond me.

I left a comment about not being asked for using the content and page designs.

Anyway, nothing to do about it and it is not first time such behavior is demonstrated.

Kind regards

Kurt ????

It's very generous of you, but I still think it's unfair to use your work without attribution. I have already expressed my disapproval on at least one Youtube channel describing the SA-5 product.

?

The fact that the SA-5 is a shameless knockoff of TinySA, and probably (my guess) unsupported to boot, makes it an unviable proposition. I wouldn't want one if they gave it to me, even though the rotary knob does seem like a better solution.

?

I summary, open source is good, actually very good, while the practice referred to here is despicable.

PS: Rant over. Your work is excellent and I always keep a printout on hand when using my two TinySA Ultra's.

Bruce Hawkins

AM is important becouse it covers better and is the source for emergency broadcast communication to the general public.?

I find that the problem with AM is too much ownership by a handful of companies, who aren't local. Making desiminating that local emergency communication often imposable.

Then there's the problem of local radio interference from power companies or other devices switching power supplies, or other sources.

My Honda Accord is quite quiet RF noise wise. But not all cars are.?

Satellite based broadcast is only available to those who can offord it.? I can't.

Not all USB-C devices can accept the large range of voltages offers by some USB
chargers.? I would suggest getting a charger which can ONLY output 5V - until
otherwise advised!
