So with all the various places like Amazon & ebay etc..

I see antenuators in Amazon for cheap compared to some other name brand ones. Yet some have good reviews. So do you get what you pay for or are some of these cheaper ones being sold as new any count?

One of my main interest is being able to measure 5 watt HTs to 50 watt mobiles.?

I'd hate to get something that's advertised as one thing..then use it to find out it's junk & possibly blow up the tinysa.? |

As soon as you activate LISTEN the scanning stops and zero span mode is selected at the frequency of the marker. The audio output is the linear with the signal level inside the active resolution bandwidth, e.g. AM demodulated, with maximum audio frequency of about 12 kHz.

Hello, I am thinking of buying tinySA Ultra Spektrumanalysator, especially because it has a zero span modus function.
I studied decriptions, videos and posts in this forum, but could not find an definite answer to my questions to that:

Is it possible in zero span modus
to measure (or calculate / visible count) the pulse frequency of a RF signal and hear the sound of a demodulated RF signal ?
?
Example1: WLAN/WIFI at 2.400 MHz. Is ist possible > to measure/see/calculate the pulse signal of 10 Hz? > and to hear the typical WIFi signal sound ?
Example2: DAB-T (digital radio) at e.g. 208 MHz (in Austria). Is ist possible > to measure/see/calculate the pulse signal of 10,42 Hz > and to hear the typical DAB-T signal sound ?
Note: I do not want to hear radio broadcasting but listen to the pulse signal.

I use a large wattage attenuator followed by a lower wattage step attenuator. ?The first is sized for the max power I plant to test (either 50 or 100 watt, 40 or 50 dB). ?This allows me to adjust the level for best accuracy and to validate that the SA is not suffering from signal compression.?
You will most likely spend more on the attenuators than the tinySA if you are going to measure anything over 10 watts.?

Here is a calculator you will find useful...

I like my peak signals between -30 and -40 dBm. In general more attenuation than you think necessary produces the best signals. I use a total of 70-80dB attenuation testing 1-5 Watt direct inputs.?

I have a tinysa ultra on order. So just trying to plan ahead & figured I'd need an antenuator to make sure I didn't blow it up when transmitting into it making measurements. I just didn't know if it has settings to tell it what size antenuator is in front of the transmitter being tested or not. I know there's charts for db to watts. But trying to find a one size fits all solution was the initial thought here. |

As others have said have an attenuation /power table close at hand. And think twice before pressing PTT
As the tiny SAultra reportedly measures best around the -20 to -30 dBm input range I have a large high power 40dB attenuator and a handful of smaller (1 ,2, 5, 10, 20) attenuators for use on the low power end of the big attenuator to get the Tiny SA working in its best range for fundamental and harmonic display? |
Antenuator question
TinySA Ultra says max 4mw signal input. If I buy a 50watt 50db antenuator & use it for 5 to 50 watts in. Will the tinySA still read the lower wattage input thu that? Or will the antenuator just kill all the signal & be over kill? I ask because I want to be able to measure handhelds & mobile radios that do 5 to 50 watts.? |

When waiting for a trigger, the tinySA captures the incoming samples at maximum speed in a raw circular buffer.
Once the trigger condition is satisfied the raw samples are converted to requested unit and displayed.
So to capture a short pulse in zero span mode, set a level trigger just above the noise floor.

I tried adding an attenuator on the off chance that the AGC might be clipping but it had no effect.

New thought ... Is there a way to tell the tinySA to plot the raw samples (in zero span) instead of trying to process them??
Can you create a "Sample Capture" buffer that would store raw samples when triggered and plot after it fills?
Can the buffer be large enough to capture 50us? Or better yet, 2ms? Selectable #points to trade resolution for time?
And can it be configured to capture samples 5 us prior to the trigger?
Extra credit: Could the sample capture buffer be made available for download?

It needs to be said.? Not only has Erik produced a great device, but he continues to provide superior after market support (i.e. this page and firmware updates).? I can't tell you how many times I've bought equipment with $ required for follow on support and that was IF support was available.
