Re: New FW release: Small selftest update

Somehow I got an email? asking how I? did the updating. As I have confused two programs in my PC, it is best to answer here. I used STM32CubeProgrammer

First you need STM32CubeProgrammer, mine is a bit old but it works in? Win7. This? a link to several versions of it.
https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stm32cubeprog.html
When I plugged in? the USB cable it was a bit tight and I had to press harder to? for it to make contact
Then I pressed the Jog wheel down and turned the SA on. USB cable was connected now. Windows noticed that a USB device was connected, but the display of SA stayed blank.
Then I clicked a button on the STM32CubeProgrammer and loaded the FW file and updating started.

The STM32 ST-LINK Utility is not the most intuitive or easiest program? to use, but it is small, so this does not really matter. There is only? limited number things you can do with it.
This is what I used, sorry about the confusion

Excellent.

We have a lot of those around here, and probably the rest of the UK too.

The 458.525 to 458.925MHz chunk of spectrum (also 869.40 to 869.65 MHz) used by them, seems to have evolved from what was originally intended, and the portable traffic control systems now appear to be the main user, possibly as a result of driving (no pun intended) everyone else out of that part of the band.

Try my web sdr, and choose the "Ant 2 458 to 460MHz PMR" profile, you will hear loads of them.

I'm just waiting (again, no pun intended) for someone to work out the data protocol, to maybe help speed up my commute :-)

Martin

Finally got to make use of the TinySA

Hi,
Just thought I'd let you know that I finally made use of my TinySA Ultra tracking down some interference where I work with some testing equipment.

Using a handheld yagi I made for 70cms I tracked down the inteference to a set of portable traffic lights that were using the same frequency as the test kit @ 458.5MHz.

So the TinySA definitely earned its keep today.

Should be the HW version

Re: New FW release: Small selftest update

Thank you. I just installed the FW with Win7 and ST-link utility.

But what are those 4.5.1 letters below the current FW version number? Are they remnants of the previous version?

Re: Maximum available FM modulation frequency of the RF generator

No, higher modulation frequency is not possible?

Maximum available FM modulation frequency of the RF generator

I noted that the Maximum available FM modulation frequency of the RF generator is only 3.5 kHz. Even if I set, for example, 10 kHz, the generator sets to 3.5 kHz anyway.

Having to test a broadcast FM stereo receiver, having an higher frequency could be useful. Is it possible?

Enhancement: Enable Load/Store to SD for Signal Generator Configuration #98

Add the ability to save and restore Signal Generator Configuration to SD card.
Suggested Implementation:
Use a different filename suffix for saved Signal Generator configuration files versus Spectrum Analyzer configuration files.
  • On the Signal Generator Mode display page, split the MODE control at the bottom of the display into 3 controls: MODE, LOAD SD, STORE SD.
  • For LOAD SD, present the list of available Signal Generator configuration files for selection similarly to loading of Spectrum Analyzer file dialog and load configuration as requested.
  • For safety, Signal Generator configuration loading should always disable output (set LOW OUTPUT to off).
  • For STORE SD, prompt for filename entry similarly to Spectrum Analyzer file dialog and save the configuration to SD.
  • If no SD card is available, disable or remove the controls.
NOTE: For simplicity, the suggested implementation uses two types of files and separate dialogs for loading Spectrum Analyzer and Signal Generator configurations. But I would not be opposed to combining the files so when in a LOAD SD user could choose either type of file and effect a MODE change as appropriate when performing the load. I think I actually prefer this.

Github Issue #98 created.

Re: New Ultra Failing Self Test

Did you forget to connect the SMA patch cable between the two ports?
Does your unit also fail calibration?

I Just received a new TinySA Ultra, gave it a full charge and it failed selftest #1 and stopped.
I turned it off and back on and now it passes #1 but fails #3 (Signal Level Failed).
I tried to run it again 7 times and each time it stops on #3.
What is my next step?

This new - and every - firmware update works well with my ultra. I update it with dfusedemo, under win10. Thank you Erik for this very good measurement unit!

Re: FW Update - Other Alternatives?

Edition??? Windows 10 Pro
Version??? 22H2
Installed on??? ?9/?28/?2020
OS build??? 19045.4046
Experience??? Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

I was running Windows 7 in early 2020 and I upgraded to Windows 10 at the end-of-service of ver 7.

Thank you.

Re: New FW release: Small selftest update

Looking at the code change, is the increased acceptable range for self-test 9 or is that actuality self-test 10? I ask because my occasional test 10 fails have gone away with this firmware update.

It is http vs. https. Any site not using https is considered to be insecure. Which does not necessarily mean unsafe.

Defect Report: Restore Multi-Band from SD Does Not Restore RBW

A multi-band configuration when restored from SD does not restore RBW. Duplicate by changing the RBW followed by a restore. Oddly, the RBW field in the display shows the incorrect RBW actually being used but when you click on it to bring up the RBW setting the correct/desired value is checked, not the one actually in use.

NOTE: This is only a defect for configurations WITH multi-band AND when saved to SD, not one of the 4 in-memory slots.

If you prefer, I can open an issue in for this in github. Not sure of proper protocol.

Horace,

What version of Windows are you using on the laptop?

Re: Is there a sync pulse generated at the CAL port?

That's Great!? Thank you.

Yup - just had to read the CONFIG menu list....;-)
PULSE HIGH enables a trigger signal from the CAL output at the start of each low input sweep.

Hans,

It's just Chrome being extra careful about the file type. From Erik's site,
it's OK so keep pressing keep!

Cheers.
