?Your example display seams hard to interpret - especially since the frequency per division readout will be wrong. The display of even just four bands simultaneously would be confusing.?The multi-band mode on the SARK-110 works quite well by splitting the screen into four quadrants, each with its own kHz/div.

This will allow the usage of a low RBW to scan the relation between strong signals and very weak signals such as harmonics without having a very long sweep time

Re: As RFI locator...

Yes. I first tried a transformer and it worked, but not as well as the emitter-follower. ?I wound a 10:1 turns-ratio autotransformer on a rectangular core, one of those with a pair of long cylindrical holes in them. ?The ferrite was #43 mix, 1" x 0.75" x 0.375". ?It worked pretty well from 1 to 3.5 MHz. ?Beyond that range there was either too little iron or too much capacitance. ?

Re: New Ultra FW release: trigger beep, multi band scanning and reduced waterfall height

I see four options:
  1. Equal amount of display points for each active band
  2. Amount of display points relative to band span share versus total band span.
  3. Amount of display points relative to band span/RBW share versus total band span/RBW, this gives equal information over total span.
  4. Manual setting of the % of display points per band

I prefer not to implement all options......
2 and 4 are my favourite as 2 is already implemented and 4 covers any crazy use case people can think of.

Erik,
? Does that mean that if 3 bands are selected then a complete sweep will be performed for each band, but the final composite display will consist of the top 450/3 points for each band?

? ?The mult-band scanning looks very useful Erik.? I expected it to be under the "FREQUENCY" menu, but the "MEASURE" menu also works.? Any chance in the future of also adding the option of manually specifying the RBW for each band? Some test standards require multiple frequency bands with different RBW's for each band (i.e., 30-200MHz @ 10kHz RBW and 200-1000MHz @ 100kHz). Being able to display the continuous 30 -1000MHz range using multiband scanning at the specified RBW's would be a neat feature.

Re: New Ultra FW release: trigger beep, multi band scanning and reduced waterfall height

I must admit that I was expecting the sub-bands to be displayed all in one sweep, and was slightly confused when it cycled. So perhaps the option of either display mode would be possible?

My preference would be to leave as-is, but with a 1 second delay between bands scanned. I think it would be too crowded with 8 segments side-by-side.

?Hi Erik, thanks for adding new features!
I would suggest to add a new displayed plot variant for the muti-band mode: not to jump the scan from one band to another in a cycle, but rather to plot all selected bands simultaneously during a single scan (common screen).
Just add vertical separation lines between the displayed bands. In this display mode we might also add more flexibility in selecting common RBW settings, etc.

Thanks for Your work!

?Did you try a? torroidal transformer? That would be my choice since it doesn't introduce more circuit noise and non linearities

Dewey, Save As.. after rotate still saves an unchanged version.

Re: As RFI locator...

I notice your schematic says the input resistance of your "impedance booster" is about 1 Megohm.? That would be true if R4, the 1k emitter resistor, were the only load on the emitter of Q1.? But it's not, of course, it is also driving the 50 ohm input impedance of the spectrum analyzer, and therefore has an input impedance in the range of 22 to 60 kohms (50 ohms times Beta of 450 to 1200).? Still, the current gain of the transistor is a big boost to the weak signals picked up by the telescoping whip antenna.? If you need to present a higher impedance to the whip antenna, try using a Darlington transistor for Q1, or maybe make it a source follower with a JFET or MOSFET.? But for most people, the current gain of the 5089 will make a big difference!? I love emitter followers/source followers (and yes, even vacuum tube cathode followers) - such a simple way to get a big current boost.
