Re: Once... A long time ago

Yahoo Groups are long gone, but the files we had there were moved here:?/g/tablesmith/files

Once... A long time ago

I used to own this, but no big deal. I remember there being a yahoo groups for this, but even more than that, I used to have literally hundreds of tables that ranged from name generators, to adventure creation tables, monster tables, all kinds of tables ... what has happened to all these wonderful tables?? Are they just not anywhere to download? Did the various databases that contained the majority of these tables not get upgraded to newer Tablesmith updates? Where are all the good tables??

Re: Date Sets

There's also a command called "CommaReplace" (you can search?for it in Help) that let's you replace all commas in a piece of text with some other character or set of characters, or you do the same in reverse. It can be handy if you are doing a lot of manipulation of strings containing commas.

Did you use a DSCreate function to make PntLst2 a dataset variable before the line you posted? If so, then check that DSCreate function; it may have a typo causing the field Power not to be set up properly.

Re: Trailing Comma

How about just stripping the trailing comma by adding

_|x={Length~%numlang%}|
_|x-1|
_|numlang={Left~%x%,%numlang%}|

Hey folks,

A question about data sets. I am generating various
stuff from a table group, variables, dice rolls, and a line or two of
data. My question is this: Is there a limit to what a dataset value
can hold or get from a table/group that is called in get statement?

_{Loop~%lp%,{DSAddNR~PntLst2,Power,[PotionCreator.ShopCall]} %CntI%.
{DSGet~PntLst2,%CntI%,Power} |CntI={Calc~%CntI%+1}|.

Error:

If so, what are the limitations?

Re: Date Sets

Or you might be getting confused by the help file.
If you use DSCreate to make PntLst2 a dataset variable without the field
"Power" then you *cannot* add the field "Power" later on with DSAdd or DSAddNR.

A tricky bit is that if you try to do so with DSAdd, you get the error "Field not found in call to 'DSAdd'" But if you try to do so with DSAddNR, it fails silently, and you only see the error later on when you use DSGet on that field.

Re: Date Sets

Did you use a DSCreate function to make PntLst2 a dataset variable before the line you posted? If so, then check that DSCreate function; it may have a typo causing the field Power not to be set up properly.

Yet another way to do it would be to use "length" and "left" to strip off the last character, which in this case would always be a comma. Something like this:

?

|lang=[GenLanguages]|

_|len=Length{%lang%}-1|

_|lang=Left{%len%,%lang%}|

?

You need to treat either the first or last language as a special case,

_|numLang={Dice~1d6}| {Bold~I speak %numLang% Languages: }
_[Culture.Language]{Loop~{Calc~%numLang%-1},, [Culture.Language]}{CR~}

This produces the first language, with any additional languages then
being added as (comma space LanguageName)

A remaining flaw is that you can get "I speak 1 languages:..."
So for additional cleanup you need to use the PluralIf function.

there another way to do this, so you don t end with a trailing comma?
