unsubbing

The Heylands

I have to admit that up until this point I didn't think too much about joining and leaving groups. I go through phases. Suddenly I find myself seeking information on a certain subject (not just machine embroidery) so I search yahoo and join several groups on that topic. When I've been a member for awhile I tend to leave some of the groups because either my interest has waned or my questions have been answered or I've gotten busy and can't keep up with the e-mails.

I've joined and left Flylady a few times. We got a labrador retriever puppy so I joined a few groups on dog training and retrievers and so on. A few of the groups didn't appeal to me so I left.

When I've been spending too much on embroidery designs I cut back on the groups I'm on so that I'm not tempted. When freebies are offered I generally download them but not always. I've never sent an explanation to a list moderator.

I do know that I have spent a lot of money on designs from a variety of designers and it would be a shame for them to ban me from their list because I left due to personal reasons, lack of time, etc.

I totally agree with you. I haven't left a group, yet. But, sometimes I feel like it when I have 100 messages to read, and when I open them up, 90% of them are about Wal-Mart, politics, religion, etc. I not saying that I don't enjoy reading about good news in your family or a prayer request for yourself or family member, these It's do not bother me. I often find myself checking the digest to make sure that a members surgery went well, that the new triplets are doing good, or that a members son that was burned is doing okay. I guess I consider these groups my extended family. I love hearing about, and seeing, the cute pictures of new family members that you are so proud of. I also think it is wonderful that so many care about others by sending words of encouragement, prayers, "Thank yous" for designs and appreciations for help.
It is the 1000+ messages saying the same thing over and over again that make me feel like I want to leave a group. I understand that the Wal-Mart closing started off as a legitimate topic...but then it got way out of hand. Same with some other topics. Even when the moderators say enough, some want to keep it going.

I really do enjoy all the groups that I am in and I wouldn't want to leave any of them.

I think it takes a while for everyone to get caught
up. Some don't look through all their messages before
they respond to a topic. They say their piece, and
then as they continue through their messages, they
find the moderator's note to quit (and a dozen or more
others that have said the same thing they just did).
I don't think they are doing it intentionally, in most
cases. At least I hope not!

My mail doesn't always post the same day that I send it! Very annoying but
out of my control. There are a lot of reasons the thread goes on.

Susan,
This makes so much sense to me, as it is exactly why I have unsubbed from groups. Or, I have forgotten my username and password and signed up AGAIN. Time is important to all of us, and not all of us have enough of it.

Choose web site reading...then you can stay subbed but read when YOU want to
