What don't you all talk about what you like, what is good and what makes you happy instead of all this negativity? Surely it's not healthy?

Well, I think I can both discuss the negative of giving things and the
positive in one message! How's THAT for talent?! LOL I make things (well, not so much lately) for my in-laws. I was finally told that it wasn't right for me to give Christmas gifts to everyone because they couldn't afford/didn't want to reciprocate. It didn't matter that I didn't care - I just really liked giving things. Anyway, I finally stopped. But, the women did have a gift exchange amongst the crafting ones. I have made some really nice stuff (if I do say so - it's that talent again, lol) Anyway, my mother-in-law has occasionally given the things BACK to me, saying she doesn't need/want them anymore, and she thinks I would rather have them back than for her to give them to charity. I started to get offended but now I look forward to getting the stuff back, because it was usually something I wanted in the first place!!! Anyway, I am divorced now and my ex-husband has told them he doesn't want me to be part of the holiday thing anymore, so now I just give the MIL and FIL store-bought stuff for occasions. Take care! IMHO, venting like this now and then is very healthy. As long as no one is nasty about it, and keeps it fairly light, discussing "pet peeves" can be quite a good outlet for what bugs you, and also give some people a new way of seeing some things. Though a companion thread of "what I really like" would be nice as well, of course.

Caroline and all. Your story has triggered one of my own. I made my sister-in-law's mom a mother/grandmother's blanket with a figure in each corner with her children's names and then their children's names and figures around them (her grandkids). During her illness she cherished that blanket, took it to the hospital, always had it in her wheelchair, chastised family members if they forgot to bring it with her and she thanked me all the time for it. When she passed away, my sister in law walked me to the coffin and showed me that the blanket was in there with her mom, that the family believed she would have wanted to be buried with it (and it would eliminate the fight over who would get such a piece of memorabilia), and she said she hoped it was OK with me. I had been "fine" up until then with all the grieving, etc., but that pushed me way over the edge. I told them I would consider it an honor and bawled all the way back to my seat.
Just another way to look at the "use" of a labor of love! Huggers, Wisc Nan |

Glen, honey, the only way to make the room usable again is to burn the place

MY digitising room opens onto a large patio, and Harold our resident carpet snake, has taken to sun baking in the middle of the patio. Best wishes Glenn... Enjoy the sun. I think you're just jealous that he's out there sun baking in you're inside working. LOL Are they poisonous? Is it the same thing as a Carpet Python? I like watching snakes. Besides, they eat the chipmunks that are playing in my upper crawl space and maybe chewing on the wires. Lydia C On 1/21/07, Glenn Harris Designs <digitiser@...> wrote:
