Sweatshirt Hooping Tips Please
Eileen
Sue,This is how I do mine. I hoop cutaway, then spray kk2000 not too much where the stitching is I then put the sweatshirt on top and solvy and pins just to hold around the edge and the baste stitch, remove pins and do design.

Yes...DON'T!!!! Hoop your stabilizer and either pin or baste the shirt to the stabilizer. You can also use an adhesive spray made for embroidery projects. Hooping a thick fabric is a disaster waiting to happen. Not only do you take a chance of messing up your design, but you can break your hoop. Pfaff has an All Fabric hoop that can handle thick items. But with most spring and screw hoops it's a risk I won't take.
Good luck, MaryJo croknitsewfab1 <sue-parker@...> wrote: Anyone have tips on hooping heavy sweatshirts? I have about 10 of them to put designs on. I have a Viking D1 and it will baste around the perimeter of the design before the design starts. I have seen basting files at a couple of sites, but since my machine does it, I didn't need them, but I'll bet someone on this list might know where the free basting files are......

Baste in the hoop is usually used when you don't hoop the fabric. The Designer SE has a FIX stitch which is the basting stitch. The Brother Innovis has built in frames which can be enlarged or made smaller to use as a basting stitch.
Any machine with built in frames could be used for basting Sewing hugs Doreen........... jandor@... Email for pricing Sales of Vilene & Embird .. www.crittersncrafts.com. I ship World wide moderator/list Mom |
