Quilt Squares - what to do with them

DH is cleaning out his dad's home and found 10 16x18 hand made
Sunbonnet appliqued squares. They are in pretty good shape. It was
suggested I make quilts for my two granddaughters. These quilt
squares were made by my dh's grandmother, so they have lots of history
and obviously aren't new. I was thinking of using them as a center
and making smaller appliqued sunbonnets to go around them. I'm not
much of a quilter and have concerns about the age of the fabric. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

After my DH grandmother died we found some quilt squares she had made.
My DD was the only one of her Great grandchildren without one of her
quilts. The material seemed to be fraigile so I made a wallhanging for
her. They don't get the use or the washings a quilt would.

Cathy,

Thanks for the great idea. With so many squares and so few granddaughters
(2) I may do both.
