Re: Question....

Judy Lehman

Hi Kim,

I have a Brother Pacesetter ULT2003D. I would have started with the Bernina
180E if it hadn't been for all the Disney stuff. Grandchildren can take you
on amazing journeys. When we bought the machine we did buy the box of
Disney colors so I could do something. I love flowers and I seem to have an
amazing collection of them, that is when I feel I need to convert colors.
After Christmas we bought each of those little people in our life a fleece
throw, each one picked out their Disney design and we put it in the corner
of the throw. Today I am going to read about placing patterns.

Hi Judy -

I've only been embroidering since Christmas so I'm a newbie, too! What
kind
of machine do you have? I have a Bernina 180E and I use Embird for
editing
the designs and Magic Box.

I started out practicing on pieces of fabric, too. I've done an apron
(denim type and inexpensive at Walmart!), and quilt labels, and framed
embroidery. I have yet to adventure onto a garment.... And I don't spend
so much time converting colors now. Now I choose the colors I like out of
my stash, or go buy new colors, and line them up together to be sure the
colors all go together well. Part of the fun of embroidery, for me, is
taking someone's design and using the colors I like to go with whatever
project I'm working on. You find you waste some time and materials
because
maybe there's not enough contrast or whatever, but you learn more about
your
machine, your stabilizers, hooping, etc. I'm planning on doing a
tablerunner, burp clothes and golf shirts. You're in a great group and
if
you need more ideas for beginning projects, just ask! Kim

Re: Grieving Blankets

Venus

My pattern was very simple it was a "T" shape I used for both the front and the back. I had a ribbon drawn string neck and wrists. I would sew lace around the bottom and cuffs. When I was making them at Christmas time I found some white satin with gold angles. I bought the whole bolt and maxed out my credit card..LOL Once that fabric was gone I stopped making them.

For the blankets the hospital supplies me with white receiving blankets and I embroidery in the corner the name, date, and weight of the baby.

Hugs to Venus for making the grieving blankets. I belong to SAGA (Smocking Arts Guild of America) and if you log on to the SAGA web site you can download patterns for making the baby gowns used in neonatal units as well as burial?) gowns for stillborn babies. I make these for our local hospital.

I am totally new to machine embroidery. My husband down loads my patterns
for me and I plug them into my machine. All I have done is embroidery
patterns on a piece of fabric, never a garment or anything else. I think
maybe I am in the wrong group, I need a Beginning Group. I feel like I
spend all my time converting thread colors over to Isacorde colors. I love
what I have done, but now I feel I am ready to move on. Any suggestions
would be very much appreciated.
