Group Reminder about Free designs

Mary Lou

While many of you may have received my chef design or many other
free designs not only from this group, but from other groups.

PLEASE.. Keep in mind these designs are Copyrighted!
If someone asks for the design, it is your obligation to refuse that
person. Even if it is "FREE".. This does not give you the right or
anyone other than the owner to share the design.

As far as the Chef, Remember, you had to email me to get your
personal copy.

And If you are thinking or requesting the design from a "Friend"
DON'T. Friends will not put each other in that position.

The availability for receiving the free Chef ended 10 Jul 08.

I hate posting information such as above, but for mine and your
protection I must.

Thank You:

Re: Responses to saving designs on email accounts

Mary Lou

Ila no one is bashing you. They are just giving opinions. There are
over 12,000 Members on HOE. What works for one, may not work for
another. Giving advise that works for you is a good thing. But
bashing someone for that has put their 2 Cent's worth in is not!
If you ask 12,000 People their opinion or make a statement about
something I'm sure you will receive at least 1/3 of a response about
what they have and have not tried and what has worked for them.

What is good for the goose, is not necessarily good for the gander
all of the time.

So there is no need getting upset over other people's opinions and
suggestions.

FIRST let me say, the "free chef" was only available to Embroidrey
Design Digest members. Having said that, The page is no longer
available.

NOTE: This ad had nothing to do with the Free Pot holder which is NO
longer available..

Thank you -

Re: OT: Save all your important computer data FREE - from Ila Turner

I have 3 computers (2 are horribly slow) and an external drive. I've
lost business contacts to hackers on an independent site, luckily I
kept the credit card info elsewhere. I trust no web storage place
any more, I backup all 3 puters every 4 months & place the external
drive in my firesafe (I put it on my wedding gift list when we
married in 2001) I back up with dvd's & cd's.... all of our fiancial
records are kept on a dongle hidden in my underwear drawer (my
husband won't even go in there...lol) but Chase now pays for my
identity protection for the next 2 years cause they lost all my
credit info they had....each puter has an encrypted file with the
document files of the other 2 puters.... if I got any more redunant,
I'd be charging myself for my own storage space...lol. I group my
emails by years & download them as such then dlete the files I know I
don't access on a regular basis.
I'm just saying, be careful of off site storage (my old professor
would kill if he heard me say this, its his business to off site
store), the gov't as well as many corporations (Chase being one of
them) has lost inforamtion.... Chase lost millions of paper records
being transported to an outside facility... my sis in law has horror
stories from her job at a national clearing house for checks...So I
trust the devil I know before trusting a devil I don't.
But thanks for the info.

I must agree.. I've crashed my computer.. on the average of 3 times
per year.. I's just me.. OMG you may say.. Well, I have 6 hard
drives, yes 6!.. I ended up purchasing a new drive the 2nd time my
computer crashed - got my computer up and running with the new one,
and added the second one..

... But, a word to the wise!

DO NOT LEAVE your external drives on all the time. I know from
experiance that, they only have about 4 to 5 years of life if they
are constantly left on!

My external back up crashed this year and I was lucky enough to
find
a place in town that saved about 95% of the data on the drive. It
took about 2 weeks as he does stay backed up.. I purchsed a new
drive
for him to move the designs and ALL the information to.

I then copied it to another drive that is on the shelf in a static
free bag. Now when I complete a set, I burn that 1 set to a CD.
If
CD's are kept safe in a envlope, they can almost last almost
forever..

Nothing lasts for ever.. One other thing, when burned to a CD. The
perminent date of the design stays with the item. Then you can
place
them in a filing cabinet alphabetly and the only thing you have to
look for is that one cd.

Everyone has their own methods.

In my digitizing computer, which is no longer attached to the
internet, I run 2 hard drives, one for the operating program,
another
for file back ups. This works so much better as there are no
threats, and If i need upgrades, I just connect for a couple
moments,
down load, and disconnect.

I should have known no good deed goes unpunished, you try to post
something to help and figure that is could not possibly be
controversial and there will be someone who lives so far above the
rest of us that they can't take it for what it is worth. If you
don't want to do this fine - but you don't have to sign into all these
accounts either - download one of the FREE password managers that will
do it for you, or possibly you don't have time to do that either.
Firefox will log you in to each gmail account with one click - and
Roboform will also. Hey you're not protecting the US Mint here - they
are designs for your embroidery machine. And I have over 4 gigs of
designs - it was stated in my email - I think you read it with the
intent of picking it apart instead of what is was intended to do -
help people who need it.

Free password manager: www.roboform. com I've been using this for
years now - the free version with NO problems.

Why can't people just take things for what they are intended?

My time is worth more to me than spending it on all
those emails you suggest in order to back up designs,
and having to sign into so many accounts to keep them
active. Some ladies might not know that some email
addresses delete everything if you don't sign in often
enough.
Your idea may be good for someone with very few
designs, but I figure most people are like me in that
their own time is worth more than the cost of backup
supplies.

My goodness, if you can afford the machine and all the
embroidery supplies, surely you can afford backup supplies!
I didn't say I could not afford all the external things - did you NOT
read my email? I had them all at one point and I do have 4 gigs of
designs.

But it is my money and how I choose to spend it is my business just as
how you choose to spend it is yours.

I choose to save my designs to email accounts, reputable ones. Do you
think Google, Hotmail and Yahoo are going anywhere? And if you go and
read their TOS you will see they have no sign in requirements.

This is not brain surgery or hard to do - every time you get a design
you attach it to an email and send it to yourself, how hard can that
possibly be? It takes no time other than initially setting it up.
It's ok, if you don't have time to do that, but others do and others
are being helped by this.

One day a CD or a thumb drive or some other system you have will fail
and you will come looking for this information.

I never give advice unless I have researched it thoroughly because I
believe that we owe it to others to keep our mouths shut otherwise.
And I have been using this method over 4 years without any problems.
And I go into the accounts to retrieve designs to use - wouldn't we
all? So why would they just sit there and wither with no use?

One other thing - there are people out there who can not afford all
the back up devices, and then there are people who live in a cocoon
who can't imagine having everything they want at the snap of a credit
card. For the people who can't afford what they want, maybe someone
bought them a machine and they have a sewing angel who sends them
supplies so they can embroider - I send things to people even in my
financial situation because I am a believe in paying it forward.

Did you read how I have bought some of my designs? I've been poorer
than poor but helping others means more than anything to me and I will
find a way to do it, that's why I went out and picked up returnables
and turned them in at a nickel each to purchase designs to help
brighten the spirits of those in domestic violence shelters. I go
without things I want, and there is a difference between what I want
and what I need, in order to be able to help others. I believe it is
the way of the Lord and I try to honor him by living my life this way.

For the others who took this for what I intended this to be, thank you
for understanding. I truly meant it to be helpful. One thing I meant
to tell you is I do have a master list in Notepad where each design is
so I can find it when I need it - but I tend to send designs I use for
children i.e. Cassandra's tic tac toe boards and things of that nature
to one account, all my animal designs to another, my florals to
another so its pretty easy for me to find something when I want it.
Never takes me more than two log ins to find a design.

I wish you all a peaceful and blessed Sunday.

I have posted a set of beautiful quilting Medallions. There are two sizes in each set; 3inch and 3.50 inch. They will be easy to edit up to a larger size or down to a smaller size to fit your project. They are as mathematically perfect as I could make them. There is a free one to try that will complete the set.

Howdy - this is a reminder about the new designs on SALE at Murphy's
Designs! You can see them here -

These are great in-the-hoop designs! You stitch them on water soluble
stabilizer and rinse. Then you have a completed Hot Pad! These each
come with a front, quilted backing and decorative pockets. Several of
the designs are quilting including a fun Sun Bonnet Sue.

As an introductory sale, these are over 50% off!!! when you get the
combo of both sets. The sale pricing is good until the 16th so don't
wait to get these great designs at a wonderful price!

I really like the Shell design on the dark batik fabric I chose. The
lighter thread colors really show off the designs. The Sun Bonnet Sue
design is done either as an applique or as just a plain blanket stitch
outline. I also include the Sun Bonnet designs separated so you can
use them in your other projects too. She is really cute <grin>.

As always, complete instructions are included so that you can make
your project look just like mine.

**TIP** Disposing of your needles can be done many different ways.
The most important part is that they will not harm anyone along the
way! I like to use the package that they came in. I also have a box
that straight pins came in that I use for bent pins. When I have
enough, I just put that in the trash.

Happy stitching!
