Re: Brother Pacesetter 8200 vs 8500
Martha Beets
I had my Brother PC8200 upgraded to 8500 a few years ago and I love it. It allows you to do so much more. You can rotate a design to fit at angles. Add another design in to fit with the one you have in. There is so much you can do with the upgrade. It is worth it.

Re: Commerical Embroidery Machines
Barry Cruver
Shell,
I have recently purchased an Amaya machine (End of Dec, Delivery in January). If you are serious about an Amaya, you can save some money and ask about their Refurbished units. Most of them seem to be from their training facilities which are sent back and completely gone through. The machine is impressive so far. Barry |
Re: A gift is a gift
Margaret E. Minton
Another similar story - years ago I cross-stitched (by hand, of course) an intricate Christmas stocking for my new granddaughter. My DIL used it one year, reluctantly, and the next year made plain-jane fabric stockings which were used instead. Hmph! (EX-DIL, because 13 years later she and my son split up.) All my work and love were simply rejected. (I guess that hurt a lot because all these years later I still remember it.)
On the other hand... sometimes things you love are just NOT what the other person loves - different style, different color, whatever. So we have to accept that and move on. Margaret in Maryland |
gifts of quilts
mlms46
Ladies, we need to remember that once we give someone something, it is
theirs to do with as they see fit. We no longer have any ownership of it, regardless of whether we made it or bought it. If we can't relinquish that ownership, we need to keep the item for ourselves. It is hard for us as quilters to understand that not everyone even wants a quilt! I have 3 adult children and 7 grands. I would NEVER in my wildest dreams make a quilt for one of those children. She has no interest in anything she percieves as 'country'. BUT, she wants quilts for her new daughter. On the other hand, my son has asked me to make quilts for him, so I do. My other daughter would probably not mind having a quilt I made, but she doesn't have one. Even at 35, she doesn't take very good care of things. Maybe someday. When I make quilts for her 4 daughters, you may rest assured I do NOT use that $8 a yard fabric. It's Walmart all the way-LOL! Martha on Virginia's Eastern Shore |

Re use of Dig. N Stitch images
I have received several questions in my personal emails about using
the images of DNS so I thougt I would respond via the group so that anyone who was interested could read it. Hi, For you who have downloaded the DNS trial... The traditional open, opens designs that are already digitized. You can then use motifs with them, turn them into applique patches etc. For digitizing, you will load your image from the tool bar on the right. The green square is the applique tool, the two balloons is the auto digitize tool. Click the autodigitize icon. From the screen that appears, click 'select image'. You can use many graphics formats. The ones that come with the program can be found at C:\program files\amazingdesigns\digitizenstitch\images. They are jpegs. If you do not see any pictures or files names, click the files of type box and enter bitmaps...or go to your own bitmaps or vector files. If you have questions beyond this point write to the group and I'll see if I can help you from the next step. Holly |
Re: A gift is supposed to be freely given
Go to a good quilt shop and buy a tiny yellow bottle of "Grandmother's
Spot Remover" -if the stain is bad, you may have to treat it more than once, but this stuff really works! Gets out old, set-in stains. Good luck, Caroline --- In HookedOnEmbroidery@..., "Phyllis Driggs" <pdriggs@...> wrote:

What makes me happy: Family, Friends, Being Blessed to have a VERY supportive husband-doesn't get upset that the house may not be as clean as maybe it should or that dinner isn't on the table when he comes home. Loves the fact that I have a hobby that brings me great enjoyment. Doesn't get upset by what I spend on it either. Happy also that I have the capability to be on the internet and find such great embroidery groups that support us when we are emotionally and spiritually down and need instant help with a project - NOTHING like it!! Thanks To all! Dori ----- Original Message -----

Quilt Squares - what to do with them
DH is cleaning out his dad's home and found 10 16x18 hand made
Sunbonnet appliqued squares. They are in pretty good shape. It was suggested I make quilts for my two granddaughters. These quilt squares were made by my dh's grandmother, so they have lots of history and obviously aren't new. I was thinking of using them as a center and making smaller appliqued sunbonnets to go around them. I'm not much of a quilter and have concerns about the age of the fabric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA Jan |
Re: A gift is supposed to be freely given
Phyllis, well said. You are absolutely right. I would rather see a gift used, than not used at all.

Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 7:58 AM Subject: [HookedOnEmbroidery] A gift is supposed to be freely given The qults my gandmother made for me when I was small are still in use. They have gone camping, some have stains that will not come out, but each time I use one of the quilts I think of my grandmother. She did not make these as museum pieces, she made them to be used. My mother recently moved into a small appartment and said we are to give her no more doo dads because she does not have room for them. I still like to give her things I make, and the items are given with the understanding that items which do not fit will be given to the church sale at the fall festival. A gift given with conditions like you must use it, but only for things I want you to use it for is not a gift. I know that some of the things I have given end up in a drawer, but I like to think the reciever gets it out from time to time and admires it. Likewise if a gift goes on a camping trip, or is used as a tent in the back yard, I was there by proxy. I liike to think gifts and forgivness are both unconditional. Phyllis |
