I have given small wall hangings with favorite/encouraging scriptures to church friends (usually for someone terminally ill). It has blessed them in their last days and I would not feel offended to see it in the coffin at the funeral. That might work better. I would think the family would want to keep the quilt as an heirloom/remembrance...JMHO...Grammy

Lynn, your story is so familiar to many of us. Perhaps when your son's children are older, you can give them something to keep. Handmade items are to be treasured and not everyone understands that. Some people only want a store bought item. I've tried to figure out over the years who likes what type gift. I've found that through the years people change. I always try to have a little something made to give as a surprise gift. It's funny, the most popular little gift is a bookmark. I let the recipient pick the one they want and many times they ask if they can have more than one. Of course, I say yes. Like you, most of the things I make go to others. I keep saying, I'm going to make something for myself, but I don't do that as often as I would like. It is the joy of giving that is important.

I can easily say that Glenn Harris you should be proud of the designs that you make. I have bought several different designs and they are always just what I wanted and stitch out beautiful. You do a great job.

When my grandchildren started arriving, I wanted to make them something pretty to keep forever. For the first grandson, I had quilted a small quilt for him of silhoutted cats in a window. It really came out nice and I was so happy to hand that quilt to my DIL. She seemed to like it and I thought it would be a family keepsake. About 5 years later, I was visiting them and their cat had a new litter of kitters. They brought out the box of kittens and......yep, you guessed it.....that quilt was used as bedding for the mother cat to have kittens on. My heart sunk, I'm sure that quilt was thrown out afterwards, but I bit my tongue and I never handed my DIL another quilt again. My DD saves things like that for her 5 children in what she calls "memory boxes". She saves all kinds of favorite clothes, toys, books, etc that the children outgrow. From time to time the grandchildren go through their memory boxes and enjoy looking at older loved items. They know that when
they're grown up that the boxes go with them and it makes them happy. I have no issues at all about giving my handmade items to my DD as she understands how much of my time and love go into making them. DIL is another story, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with this sort of thing going on. You just learn who you can trust to take care of your hand crafted items. I seldom keep the things I make, most of my joy in making them is to give them to someone who's face lights up and is so happy to have it. Happy stitching.....Lynn

When you just starting out, and the program came with your machine -
sometimes it's best to stick with something that is relatively easy
to use and learn from - most, not all you can set density and fill
but most are limited. Although I wasted money on one, which now
sits on the shelf, I know I started with auto digitizing and found
out that was not the route for me. But to keep from making the same
mistake because I knew nothing... I wanted to learn manual punch..
So, I purchased Embroidery Magic 2 - It's a wonderful program to
learn manual punch and if you purchase the tutorial it's fairly
inexpensive. Most people who purchase an embroidery machine are so
overwhelmed by the wonders of the machine it takes them a few months
to figure it out.. Not everyone starts with a program like Origins,
Wilcom, or the other high dollar programs until they know where they
are headed. If you are digitizing for yourself, and feel that Auto
punch is fine for you... and It MOST OF ALL Works for you and your
conferrable with it... Than, enjoy what you are doing.

Like a lot of digitizers, we like to manual punch. The results
usually are better than Auto punch, but the biggest difference.. We
are selling a product. Just like when I make cloths for myself, I'm
far less picky than when I'm making them for the public or even my
family.. While Mine do not have to be perfect - The ones I do not
wear Do!

But - no matter - copying designs, trademarked items, and
copyrighted artwork is illegal regardless if I'm doing it for me or
you.

There is plenty of free - copyright free graphics to choose from
that is in public domain to even worry about the rest.

Those designs definitely still belong to the owner unless

permission is given in writing.

That's the law. What is important for the digitiser is that they

keep their design process on file and not keep overwriting it. That
is their proof of ownership. Each digitiser has their own style
just as any artist does.

Don't Forget to take a look at my friend Suzanne's Rag Quilts. She finished

I guess there must be a lot of us who use it. After all, it is a really good way of getting started in digitising. You do learn heaps by examining how the program does it and then trying to better it.

there are also many home embroiderers who would have had the program included in a kit with their initial machine purchase so you would expect them to use it too particularly if they are on a low or fixed income. The beauty there is that they can then afford to buy a few of the designs they like rather than only being able to buy "useful" designs.

I've seen some lovely embelishments on auto digitised work.

So, are you still a member of that group?

Okay.. I have something new and very different from my usual at
AnArtisticStitch! Corners and Lines... which is great for linens,
napkins, and whatever else you can think of!!! This is a set of 10, 5
