Just thinking

croknitsewfab1

and that usually gets me into trouble...but anyway. I was just
stitching out a design and still being very new to all of this I just
have to watch every stitch. It made me wonder if it was possible for
the designer to have their name download with the design. I try to
write it down at the time I download a design, but I don't always
remember. Now I will go back to all the places I have found designs to
see if I can find this designer. I am just in love with the way this
one is done. No jump stitches and it stitched out fabulous, I want to
buy more. I just can't remember if it is one I bought or a free one I
came accross.

hi there Myrna,
you would have found a great difference in the climate between Durban and Cape Town as we have a sub tropical - very hot and humid and rain in summer and Capetown has a Mediterranean climate with rain in Winter and I don't think the humidity is quite as bad as here. but having said all that both cities are wonderful in their own way.
I am in Durban and wouldn't live anywhere else even though we moan like mad about the heat and humidity in Summer .Winter here is paradise:))))
I would love us all to go back to the old days when we gave away freebies with joy and loved to see how folk used them. But sadly one can never go back :(
I began digitising in 1996 and loved it but gradually this wonderful hobby became cutthroat and digitising for sale no longer was attractive.the trouble I had killed all my creativity and it is literally years since I digitised anything!
Now I download the freebies . I would love to buy many many designs but with the exchange rate with the dollar as it is now here in South AFRICA and has been for sometime, ones pension does not stretch that far.
I want to thank all of those digitisers who give away freebies. I for one really appreciate them.
And I often tell other embroiders here where to go to buy designs that they are looking for:))
take care

When they say that and put them away, I always wonder if that is just their
way of politely saying they don't like it enough to use it.

I don't make anything else for someone that says that to something I've
made.

Since we are on this line of things that bug us... What really bugs me is
when I make something for someone, and it is to be USED not to be just
looked at. Like I made a Scrap quilt last year for my brother in law and
his wife and son. It was onlly the size of a lap quilt for if you were in a
chair or on the sofa. I told Pam to USE it and she was like "OOOHH no, it
is way to pretty to be used." I dont like to see the things I made put
away. I like to see them out and getting worn and dirty.... lol

"Miems Kemp" <kemp@...> wrote in part:

Maybe the best will be to reward our customers on every purchase with
a free design each time, than to just put free designs up every day
LOL, Miems, I sure get a kick out of you dear lady, LOL.

*As if* <rolls eyes> . . . you don't give enough freebies already, you
have always been SO generous with your freebies.

You know, people will argue about anything, and we all get our dander
up now and again, but some more than others, LOL. I remember when I
first started a few years ago just with machine embroidering, and a
lot of hoopla at that time was "should they be called freebies or
samples", I was like . . . OMG! This is not *that* important, but
<shrug> I guess it is *to some*.

And the original post about the current "hoopla" has spiraled out to
related topics, yet spin-offs of their own, LOL (and not only on this
group mind you).

As digitizers we are never going to be able to please everyone all of
the time, it's impossible, so we can only try their very best, with
what is available to us, at our current skill level, of course . . .
for some, this will not be good enough . . . but that's okay, those
headaches we dont' need.

My dear digitizers friends let us live and let live, if your designs
are good enough they'll buy it anyway
Very true. There are alot of digitizers out there, but I am of the
opinion, that one's work and the service one gives, speaks of whether
they and the individual, are a good or not.

and show your appresiation
Speaking of appreciation, awhile back, you had been asking for ideas
of what to make next . . . one of my wishlist items, was designs that
reflected the old style pillowcase covers my grandmas used to have, of
the ladies in big crocheted gowns . . . I saw your current birthday
sale is in effect (BTW, a very happy birthday to you dear Miems) this
caused me to go visit again and what do I see but oodles of such
designs, so look for my purchase on payday, I have to pay up a
tutorial subscription first elsewhere and then will purchase some of
those from you =-) Thank you for making those designs, I will have
problems choosing which ones to get <wink>.

why most are so against freebie hunters.
LOL, I am definately laughing at this because I collected so many, and
this was before I got the sorting folder, I am STILL sorting those out
after all this time, but it's fun, LOL. But you know, I rarely if
ever now collect the freebies anymore, it just doesn't cross my mind,
but I remember how exciting the new world of machine embroidery was to
me, and I wanted all I could get at that time, that usually passes
after awhile, because we get a sense of balance with it.

I ones was FREEBIE HUNTER TOO
Right there with you, LOL

.......................spend hours to download
tons of designs for free and was'nt aware of the time and efford
that goes into them.
But we sure do know now don't we? (even me the beginner that I am,
LOL) and guess what my second set was? Celtic! silly me <sigh> . . . I
started, got in deep . . . asked my teacher who said it made her
"stutter and shudder" and then I found out why, LOL . . . but I got
stubborn with those and I stuck it out . . . I cut my digitizing teeth
on those things, LOL. Still have a lot to learn, but boy what a way
to start. I am fortunate, I have WONDERFUL testers, who have no
problem tell me, "hey . . . you got problems here with this", bless 'em.

Maybe it is time to turn the clock back and regain respect for each
other.
Yes Mam.

Let us be one happy sewing family like in the old days when grandma
and mom etc show the girls to do whatever they learned from years >ago???
You betcha. My two oldest girls, I lost hope on, they have no
interest =-( Heidi just turned 18 and Gabrielle is about to turn 16 in
a few days . . . ahhh, but my little Willow, who just turned 12 a few
months ago . . . all is not lost! SHE wants to learn, I have a little
childs Janome for her (solid little machine with a good strong lock
stitch) Willow is small for her age, so this is appropriate for her
and less stress for me . . . we have chosen a pair of simple jeans to
make, we bought the neatest dark blue denim with a dark pink leopard
velveteen print of all things . . . it's very fun to work it and will
easy for her to hold onto. Finally I can pass my skill on to someone!

Re: about freebie hunters!!!

Jodi

I just have to say how much I appreciate all of the freebies given by all designers. I usually browse the site while I am there. My 'want' and 'need' list grows ever bigger! I also work, have children-one grown and married and a teenager still at home. Both of my children have health issues, the grown one is in a major remission, and the younger one is in a very stable
condition at this time. The embroidery, reading HOE and learning from all of the projects listed and enjoying the freebies are all part of the small ME time that I enjoy. I am still here if the family needs me, but am enjoying my 'little' hobby immensely. All of the designers, digitizers and members of HOE contribute to my hobby and enjoyment. My job is extremely stressful, I work 2nd shift and generally read most postings after work, so this is also my wind down time.
I purchase when I can and appreciate all of the hard work and talent that goes into all aspects of this business. You are all appreciated!! Jo

Hi Myrna

Thank you, my country is great and I love living here. Wish the exchange rate was still R2 to the dollar, I would have a ball bying designs, we now looking at about 7 rand to the dollar!
Kind regards

Hi Helena

Just wanted to say that you live in such a beautiful place. My husband worked for an oil drilling company, and they were bringing a rig from Scotland to the Gulf of Mexico. They made a stop in Durban, and from that minute he started "pestering" the company to transfer him to South Africa. Sure enough, about 6 months later we were transferred to Cape Town, and found a beautiful flat in Clifton. Our landlady owned the restaurant at Kirstenbosch Gardens, and she was the most wonderful and kind person I have ever met. We were there for 18 months, and loved it so much. I know what you mean about the exchange rate when buying with the Rand - when we were there it was only 2 rand to the dollar, but I know it's much higher now.

Hi everybody

I read all the comments about freebie hunters and can only say thank you to all the digitisers that are so generous in giving freebies. When I bought my embroidery machine just over two years ago, I had no idee what can be achieved on my machine. I was very nervous to try all the different techniques and looking at the prices, was very nervous to buy. Living in South Africa and having to buy in dollars was just too expensive. As I got more confident with it, and thats thanks to everybody in all the various groups who so generously share there knowledge and designs, I got braver and pulled out the credit card and started buying some of the design sets that I have been dying to try. I still freebie hunt, who doesn't LOL, but because of the freebies that allowed me to gain confidence in the various techniques, have got no problem in buying a design (or two) when there is some spare cash in the household budget!!

Therefor, I would like to say thank you to everybody out there that through there freebies and advise help those of us that really got no idea of the scope and creativity of the machine embroidery world when they buy a machine. I love my machine and it is the best investment I have ever made.

Thank you kindly and happy stitching everybody!

I once had a santa sleigh and when I was doing some file cleaning, I accidently deleted it. I have searched for over 12 months to try finding it again but to no avail. I have even emailed digitisers who I thought had given it away to see if I can purchse it, but noone I've contacted owned it.

The sleigh is red, was designed that the word "sleigh" was the supports for the runners on the bottom and it was not attached to reindeer, nor did it have a santa or toy bag (I don't think).

Have you seen it? It was the best sleigh I've seen for a long time because it was unusual. It would have to be about 2 or 3 years old now at least.

Oh, I hope someone out there has it and can tell me where to go get one and not just where to go lol !

Hi,

I did some totes for a group of school bus drivers. I used a design of a school bus and around the design were the words "School Bus Drivers Rock!" The group I did them for just loved them. Here is the link to the designs - about 1/2 way down the page -

Hope this helps,
