Re: Seeking info for Mantua General 4-4-0 locomotive drive link/shaft
I think I have a couple of these (Mantua and/or Tyco) in my collection... I have to hit the storage to see, but my inventory program says I have 2 "in the box" so they should have all the parts.? I might be able to take a picture of the piece to help in locating a replacement, if that would help.. or maybe get really lucky and have a IPB in one of the boxes. Unfortunately, that means a day or two for me to hit the storage and dig them out but..? I'll let you know what I find. Mike

Central Coast Railroad Festival (Calif.) - Show Your Railroad
Central Coast Railroad Festival (Calif.) - Show Your Railroad The Central Coast Railroad Festival returns this year to San Luis Obispo and northern San Barbara Counties on October 4-6, 2019 (Friday-Sunday). As in past years I will organize a tour of model railroads and garden railroads in the above areas. Last year we had thirty-two railroads on the tour and we already have close to twenty for this year. But more railroads always are welcome. If you have an operating railroad I would like you to consider participating in the tour. Participating in a layout tour is a great way to share your work and meet your fellow model and garden railroaders. You’ve probably worked hard on your railroad so you might as well get some recognition from people who will appreciate your efforts. We are only asking railroad owners to be open for four or more hours on just one day. Additional days and hours are at the owner’s option, including "early bird" showings on Thursday, October 3. And we are asking owners in Santa Maria and areas south of Santa Maria to be open only on Sunday, if convenient for them. All you need to do is operate your trains. I will do all the planning and publicity, as I have done for fifty-nine previously tours since 2006, including eight previous tours for the Central Coast Railroad Festival. This tour will be a free, self-guided tour. No buses will be used. If you have any questions before committing to the tour, please ask. In any event, please contact me OFF LIST in the next several weeks if you are interested so we can add your railroad to the tour. Once you have been added to the tour I will contact you later this month to set your days and hours. Thank you. 2019 small layout meet
Just in case there are, like me, members of this list who are not on Facebook, there will be a small layout meet on July 13th, at the Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation 14 inch gauge railroad site, 12505 C.R. 99, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Setup is at 9 am. Meet is from 10 am to 4 pm in the NWORRP enginehouse.

You'd need the guardrails, else it won't work. NG would? derail every time. But that would be a simple approach, the more I think about it. Electrically as well as mechanically. Steve |

Re: Help Needed -- Can I use an HO/HOn3 transition track on a turntable
Seems to me that four tracks, centered, on the turntable would be best.?
But 3 tracks on the turntable could also work. If the turntable had 3 straight rails, you would need 4 tracks on the approach, and some sort of crossover to get back down to 3, or 2. It'd be simplest to have a dedicated narrow gauge approach track, then you merge 4 into 2 using essentially a turnout,? but which only partially diverges. I suppose you could have a pair of approach and departure tracks with a regular turnout too, and simply turn by 170 degrees rather than 180. Alternately, the turntable could have a sort of crossover built into it, using 2 frogs and no moving parts. Then approach tracks are simple, 2 or 3 rails, and everything is straight at the edge of the turntable. Steve |

You can have four tracks on a turntable with all bridge tracks accessible to all layout tracks provided that all tracks are radial at the boundary.? This requires some distortion.??As the tracks on the bridge need to far enough apart the spacing at the boundary
will need to be wider than normal and similarly the layout tracks will also need to be radial which is bad news if you want?parallel tracks but?not so bad otherwise.

You will want the HOn3 rails to be centered on the HO rails so that they will align with the 4 rails on your turntable. If you do not have a 4 rail bridge and approach the rails will not align when you turn an HOn3 loco 180* You could have an HOn3 only
approach track that will align with the 4 track bridge as another option.

Layouts page Dear all I’m afraid I have some very sad news. Jack passed away in his bed on Wednesday morning. There will be no funeral, he will be cremated and his ashes returned to Lou. He will leave a massive hole in my life, and will be sorely missed. I’m not sure what else to say-------------------------- Jack, as many know, was a very creative individual when it came to micro/small layouts and many examples of that creativity can be found in the various files of this groups and the affiliated groups.? His Box Street Yard is perhaps one of the most popular micros.? Jack was also a driving force behind the creation of the original Small Layout Design Group on yahoo.? He always had interesting comments to make and he will be missed.? Our condolences go out to Lou and his family.
