Kinglet behavior

For the past 5 days, this Ruby-crowned Kinglet has been going up and down my window, several times a day.? His feet touch the glass and make an unusual sound.? At first I thought he was finding spiders or insects there but on closer examination I saw no sign of insects or cobwebs on the window, and he still comes and does the same move.? Any ideas on why he is doing this?

Maybe he's seeing his reflection and thinking it's another bird?

The last time I saw this kind of behavior was when a parent was trying to get to a baby that had fallen from its nest (which we discovered had been inaccessible inside of a fireplace with a grate in front). Search your fireplace if you have one--you may find a needy baby bird or two!

Tay -Thanks for the suggestion but there is no fireplace or any other vent near the window, other than the rain gutter.? While it does seem that the kinglet is trying to get into the house, winter is generally not the time that songbirds have babies - that would be much more likely in spring.

Yes, that guess was a long shot for this season. Maybe that Kinglet just scored a fitbit for Black Friday and is trying to work in his daily 10,000 steps!

Your snow geese videos were great--a lovely and joyous cacophony! Beautiful pics of all the other bird life up there, too.

Now its been over 2 weeks and the Kinglet continues his unusual behavior every day 2 to 3 times a day- see this video:

I have stood within a foot of the window where the Kinglet can easily see me but it does not seem to bother it.? Still open to any ideas on why its doing this.

Sub-hash,
Here are my two cents. I recently read a communication from the American Audubon Society indicating it is not unusual for birds on windowsills to become fascinated with their reflection and look at their reflection either as a threat or an attractive image. Maybe your bird is fixated in some way...

Cheers, Eric Ross

I have not been able to load your original video, but your comments sound like typical Kinglet gleaning/feeding behavior.?
