Bittern

Usually when I see an American Bittern, it is mostly hidden among reeds in a wetland.? This week I got some clear views at Babel Slough.

Your bittern sure looks like a First Year Green Heron. ?Any thoughts from others?

Check this out, Stephen. I'm sure Subhash is correct.

That dark crown eliminates American Bittern. Based on the pictures that is a 2021 model Green Heron. There are a lot of them along Babel Slough. That area doesn't support the extensive marshes preferred by the bittern. Nice shots.?

That had been my first I’d but in the first pic it had a really long neck that I have not seen on a Green Heron. ?Is that unusual?
