Great Week End
I hope everyone had a great week end, no fireworks required, and are ready to make this a great week. Other than another work day at the church, where we "fixed" several of the fluorescent lights, planed down a "sticking" door and made several other "adjustments" to make sure everything was in good shape for Sunday morning, I spent a relatively quiet week end at home. I still had a good bit of "doing nothing" left over from last week so I tried to catch up and start this week fresh. I did have the pleasure of going to the mens lunch gathering today which is a monthly "thing" for the men of our church. There were about a dozen that made it so we had a good time talking and just visiting. Almost all of them are former military so there was a lot of talk about if and when they might have gotten to visit Thailand while serving. Bangkok, Thailand, was where I took my R&R during my first tour in Vietnam. It was a wonderful week as it was the first time in seven months that I got to sleep on a real bed with actual sheets and have hot water to shower and shave. I think I took about five showers a day just to enjoy the hot water. It was ironic that the Thai restaurant they had decided to go to is partly owned by the daughter of my first ex-wife. It was good to visit with her a bit and the food was very good. I think all but one or two of us took part of our meal home as the portion size is quite large. So, now it is up to you to go have a great week. By the way, it would not hurt to get on this site more often. John T. Herman 210-396-1974 Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. July is our family birthday month. Three grandkids were born in consecutive years (1999, 2000, 2001) plus one was born in May 1998 and another in June 1998, so lots of celebrations. One bonus daughter's birthday was Sunday. We did not get to see her, though, bc she lives in OK. We have a 12 year old great granddaughter whose birthday is July 4. She also lives in OK and is in a children's acting group. We recently went to see her in "Finding Nemo". Our church made arrangements to have a free screening of the movie? "Sound of Hope" at a theater last week. I recommend it. It is a true story about the members of a small East Texas church that fostered or adopted all the children in their vicinity that were homeless. I think there were 77 kids of all ages. At the end of the movie, they told what became of them when they grew up. On Sunday afternoon we went to the base to see a free prescreening of? the movie "Twisters". Wow! I felt like I was in a tornado several times. It was a very intense and realistic movie. So scary!! In June we went to see a free prescreening of Kevin Costner's movie "Horizon" at the base. He was actually there and on the stage with the base commander. He spoke about how and why he made the movie. It had been in his head since the 1980's to do a history of how the west got started. He couldn't get financial backing even as a star who had made money on other films for the industry so he decided to finance it himself. He acted and directed, also. It is the first of a four movie series. The second of the series will be out in August. I was impressed by his humility and his respect for the military. He said he had played brave men in his career, but he knew who the real brave men were...the military. Looking forward to my first great grandchild (a boy named Theodore..Theo) to be born this month. Yes, another July baby. This is my granddaughter Michaela's baby. Now we will have a great grandchild from my side of the family and one from Don's side (the 12 year old Annabelle from OK). Enough of my life...how about yours? Barbara Flanary Wilson

I am checking in from Colorado. My daughter came to Muskogee to drive with me. We had a good trip other than a rain and wind and thunder and lightning storm we went through.
