Isolated Tee
14
One thing I'd like to have in my supply box is an iso-tee. Today while searching I came across this repeater builder post below. Then I found another site that sounds like the same thing but with pictures. The pictures helped me visualize it nicely. Are these good plans for one or should I keep looking around for a commercially made one on the used market? If so is there one recommended? On ebay I'm seeing a lot of sma connecter ones. I'd prefer N connectors if possible. Wanting it for repeater stuff. To test for desense & receiver sensitivity etc. https://repeater-builder.com/projects/iso-tee-project.html https://urgentcomm.com/tower-site/every-toolbox-needs-one-of-these

Midland 91-1110 Basetech III intermittent receive
I'm troubleshooting a pair of 91-1110 VHF repeaters that both seem to exhibit the same issue: Intermittent receive. The units will work perfectly for days, then suddenly stop recognizing a receive signal (even with a comm analyzer on freq and PL connected to the RX N connector. Sometimes, immediately preceeding this failure mode, the BUSY light on the front panel will illuminate with a 1 bar signal shown on the LED display. Sometimes the machine will still work in this condition, other times it does not recognize a legitimate input signal (ie, on freq with correct PL) then the BUSY light will extinguish and the RX will be dead. No recognition of any on freq on PL signal into the RX input. If left alone, hours to days later, it recovers and once again receives and works normally. Then it fails again in the same cadence. Rinse and repeat... Having no familiarity with these machines and having only minimal data (the programming manual, user manual, and supplementary maintenance manual) I do not have enough data to go looking for the root cause of the intermittent failure. I thought logic issues, but I would not expect a logic fault to self clear, so I'm at a loss. Both machines were a "give away" from local public service, so I wonder if both were exhibiting this failure and discarded from use. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any thoughts on where to focus troubleshooting? Furhter, soes anyone have a complete maintenance manual (not the addendum. I already have that)? Thanks for the assist Ron KA3JIJ

ID intervals (was: [repeater-builder] RC-210 and SLR-8000 PL Inhibit)

At 5/23/2025 01:48 PM, you wrote: That was my point. It is not prohibited, so therefore is allowed. In fact, one could ID every 5 minutes and be legal. Really? OK then, how about every 3 minutes? 2 minutes? 1 minute? 10 seconds? Or is it legal to just continuously transmit nothing but your callsign? Bob NO6B

RC-210 and SLR-8000 PL Inhibit
41
Our club's VXR7000 died, so we upgraded to a loaned SLR-8000 (good to have friends in low places) to get us back on the air. Luckily everything came on as programmed and I couldn't have done it better myself if I had planned it.. lol I do have one issue though. The controller is programmed to not send PL during ID, so that someone can turn on PL decode and leave their radio up without hearing the ID and grandfather clock on the hour. We used a TS64 before to decode/encode PL, but we took it out of the chain and are going direct to the SLR. Everything is working fine except for that one feature. I wired up GPIO9 (pin 6) to Pin 1 (CTCSS Control) and enabled TX PL Inhibit on GPIO9, but it seems like with it assigned, it permanently inhibits PL, even if I flip from High to Low functionality on the repeater. Is there something I'm missing or is my way of thinking not possible? Also, those that have used the SLR, what should you have the Audio Type set as? Wanted to make sure I have it correct. Mike

I have 2 UJF M1225 LS radios that have passwords that previous owners don't have available. I once heard there was a bypass password for these radios. Is that true?

RC-210 and SLR-8000 PL Inhibit, attempt #2
5
Going to try this again since my other topic was hijacked and turned into a cryfest over ID's.. So, again, RC-210 to a SLR-8000 no TS64. Everything works great, but I am attempting to set up the repeater so that the CW ID does not send PL Tone. (This is our choice, do not start your crying about ID in here) This is how our old config (VXR-7000 with TS64) was set up. Nothing has changed regarding controller programming yet. My thinking was tying the CTCSS Control pin to GPIO and enabled Tx PL Inhibit would do this just fine. However when I have Tx PL Inhibit programed in, whether set for Active High or Active Low, it strips PL constantly. Is there something I am missing regarding the CTCSS Control output or the way the Tx PL Inhibit function works? Or is there something silly I'm missing on the RC-210 to change the CTCSS Control functionality? (Please, for the love of god, keep the ID fight out of here) Mike

Using HF rig or 6M repeaters
9
I have some potential users of my 6M FM repeater that want to use their HF rigs for that purpose. Unfortunately most that have tried have terrible audio - over driven and distorted. What do they need to pay attention to with their rigs? FWIW, I do not have an HF radio because I have zero interest, so I'm no help to them. Chuck WB2EDV

Kpg-43 schematic
5
Due to my former company keeping my Kenwood programming cables, I'm kind of stuck right now. I've got two tk790s I need to reprogram the frequencies and I know that front panel programming won't allow me to do that. I've got an old microphone with the connector and want to make up my own programming kpg 43 but I can't find the schematic anywhere. Don't be a smart ass and tell me to go buy one, as some people have previously done in other post. I don't have time! I know transmit and receive data is carried on one pin but how do you interface that to a FTDI? Resistors or is a xstr needed? I have searched everywhere and can't find the damn schematic for this thing. I know I used to have it but I lost it on an old hard drive. TIA Chris WB5ITT

Flat Audio - Motorola
13
Good Day All, Just reaching out to see if anyone has had any issues with Motorola RKR1225 repeaters not producing flat audio on pin 11 of the accessory port with the "flat audio" check box enabled in the RSS software. We have 9 of these repeaters and due to audio quality issues, I want to switch the repeaters and links to flat audio. I have struggled with emphasis and de-emphasis filter paths. Some in the controller, some are enabled/disabled in the radios themselves. I have tried to eliminate it all by going flat audio. However, the audio links from some of the sites are still muddy. Using a backup repeater I have, I started investigating the issue. I have eliminated the de-emph filters on the controller and enabled flat audio in the RKR and Astro Spectra (used for the links) for both TX/RX. However, on the RKR1225, injecting a signal set for 3KHz deviation to the receiver, and varying the tone, the audio level coming from pin 11 on the RKR1225 is 4V PP at .600KHz and 650mV PP at 3KHz. Seems to be a lot of roll off at higher freqs. I would expect the opposite?? Switching back to "EIA" in the RKR doesn't seem to change anything. Again, I'm checking the level right at pin 11 - no controllers in line. Is this some impedance issue? Perhaps a switching issue inside the RKR1225? Today, going to check the output impedance spec and see if I can load it to see what difference it makes. May try another RKR1225 also. I've confirmed the modulation of the SM is flat across those frequencies. Thoughts and ideas are appreciated! Jim

Sinclair 2037 multicouplers with 220 kHz spacing
5
I started a new thread for this as the most relevant was from 2010 I have a site with a couple of highband vhf repeaters as well as a ham machine on 145.210 -600. One of the highband repeaters is on a duplexer at the bottom of the string with the other highband repeater and the ham repeater(ve6aah) using 2037 multicouplers. My hope is to use another 2037 to allow APRS on 144.390 which is 220 kHz from the ham repeaters input. rx/tx would be nice but I would settle for a rx only if I had to. It has pretty good coverage already with an antenna on the roof of the building but the main antenna would be great. The 2037 tunes up nicely to 144.390 after changing to 24" inter-cavity cables, with 3.7 dB loss. While tuning, I did not adjust the coupling loops although did check the notch depth of each cans port with the other being unterminated, being ~10.5 dB. Thanks to the various posters from 04/21/10 who suggested that factor and much more. As its a mountaintop site, its pretty hard to test and tune in place but I do have a spare 2037 to emulate the repeaters input on the workbench. Thats getting cabled up now. Is what Im trying to do even possible? Excessive losses on the APRS is tolerable. Ross
