Does anyone know of any school bus company or school district currently using SCHOOL RADIO, (Brand) PTT over Cellular mobile and portable radios? I have a Kenwoot TKR 851 UHF repeater for sale. It is a 25W unit but set for 12 watts since I was told the last owner used it on an amp. Repeater is in good shape although I never put it on the air but I was told it works great. $600 shipped. Thanks Chad

I had about a 10 minute chat with Bob at Henry Radio Wednesday afternoon. So here is what he had to say: 1. Henry Radio did not negotiate or in any way shape or form purchase T.P.L. Amplifiers. As such, they have no drawings or schematics for T.P.L. Amplifiers. They have no spare parts, boards, or otherwise for T.P.L. products. 2. Henry did purchase the domain registry and old voice phone number to T.P.L. The phone forwards straight to Bob's cell. 3. Henry DOES repair T.P.L. amplifiers. Turn around time is a little longer (a few weeks to a month on average) than on Henry products, because with no schematics, they basically are reverse engineering the circuits in the diagnosis process. They have 2 dedicated 2-way technicians that work on the T.P.L. products, while the other bench technicians work on the Henry line. 4. The old man Henry has retired. Bob is apparently in charge now, and will chat with anyone that has questions. No R.M.A. number is required. Just go to the Henry website and print out a hard copy of their repair form and include it with your T.P.L. amplifier for service. 5.Also, Henry is once again repairing their own name brand 220 MHz amateur amplifiers. They had ceased repairing them about 2 years ago, and refused repair on one of mine that I had purchased from them back then. Our group got the MTR-2000's and they power up, so very good sign. However, putting an RSS software on it, the RSS fails to read the MTR.. Tried 2 different cables (FTDI, 2102) Also have a RIB cable to put on it.... (Com ports match) I suspect the RSS software might not be correct. What version to use??? And. do I need a specific OS (WinXP, 7) or what? If anyone has a codeplug to modify, that would be appreciated.... One of them codes out to 100w and 2 meter capable! Hello everyone is the subject says I have a new to me Motorola r-2001b. It came with the cover and all the accessories except for the CRT sun shield. CRT is in good shape. I was looking at the unit when I purchased it and it had a image on the CRT that followed when pressing different functions. When I got it home and turned it on of course it did nothing. Horizontal sweep was extremely pinched almost down to a vertical line, almost. Sometimes the monitor will boot other times it does a partial Boot and sits there and screams with a single tone. I do see some suspect capacitors that look like they have corrosion underneath the translucent shrink wrap. From the manufacturer codes it looks like this one was made sometime in 1982. It's a good clean shape. I am suspecting power supply issues to start. The capacitors in question are on the power supply modules. The two large computer type capacitors show no signs of corrosion or leakage. I will be getting the LCR meter out and measuring the capacitance and ESR of those large computer capacitors. And I will also be replacing the suspect ones. Other than not pushing the test probe too far down into test point 201, is there anything else to look at that is a common failure point? When the CRT did have an image it had a ripple wave in the screen in the horizontal plane moving slowly up the screen. Any experts out here on this old dog? -- Thanks, Randy. randy.ab9go@...

This topic might be a little personal preference to some people. What I'm looking for is the following. 1. Which models of Motorola gear will work best in the ham radio DMR space. Example: Motorola model 5000E with Serial number X to Y works well. 2. Which models are most likely to show up in the used market for ham use. 3. Which one will hook up to DMR network without having to jury rig everything. I'm not as familiar with the Motorola gear as I as I am with Hyteria and Kenwood. Thanks! Steven H N8RLW

Greetings all, I have enjoyed reviewing numerous posts on this group over the past several months, especially as I plan and have started a build of a 25W iCOM ID-2010V based mobile repeater on VHF. I'm writing to ask for pointers on finding a duplexer to purchase. I already own the iCOM repeater controller. My application is primarily for portable use, supporting both Olympus rally and Oregon Trail Rally in WA and OR respectively. Recognizing the challenges of a VHF portable, I have a trailer in hand with an onboard power system, mast, antenna, and enough space to mount and travel with a full sized 4 or 6 cavity system. Requirements: 25W and .6MHz frequency pair spacing. Please go easy on me as I am ~4 year HAM and this is the first repeater I have worked on from scratch. I've spent some time with local clubs at repeater sites and have worked in partnership on a DIY dispersed 2 site repeater using 2X TYT 9800s in VHF config with UHF crossband interlink before. Any help would be greatly appreciated, specifically sourcing a duplexer best suited for portable, and advice on mounting it for vibration mitigation. Perfectly happy to purchase and adopt used equipment in good shape. I also welcome advice on what models or types to shy away from. I have zero experience tuning duplexers but I have been following the repeater builder list for several years, trying to learn and because it is so interesting. Recently, our club received a VHF DB Products 4060 four can duplexer from what was reportedly a working repeater (SK, I think). I seem to have foolishly volunteered to check it out and retune it to a new VHF pair. I have a nano VNA, a sig gen and SA to work with as well as lots of dummy loads, attenuators, HTs etc. But zero experience so I am begging for advice. My initial plan was to check and tune the cavities for good SWR at the TX and RX frequencies (2 cans each) Then to examine the insertion loss of each cavity individually. But I have no idea what to expect. What should be the expected insertion loss of a single cavity? What should be the expected loss be at the rejection dip tuned by the series cap in the loop? So far I am seeing only about -30dB at the dip. I have already discovered a bad cap in one of the cans. There may be other problems. So far, I cannot even be sure whether these are the "B" models for the ham band but am assuming so since the SK's repeater was VHF. The whole diplexer was thickly painted so that I cannot see any ID numbers on the loop boxes either inside or outside. Any and all advice will be gratefully accepted. 73, Jerry W6OJE

Years (more like decades) ago, I was playing with MX300's for a portable repeater. Got rid of the radios and parts long ago, but just came across a box of Manuals, and an antenna test cable. Has anyone successfully programmed wildcards in a GTR8000 codeplug in order to make the exciter's PL encoder track the status of the receiver's COR and/or PL Detect status? Even something from a Quantar might help steer me in the right direction. If so, would you care to share your notes? Thank you. Eric K2CB

I'm not familiar with vendors for all weather communications boxes. Does anyone have any recommendations? This would be used to mount at the base of a tower site or used for mounting at the bottom of a 4 leg water tower site. Equipment inside would be for a remote receiver site and a power supply to power the radios. A couple of weather proof ports for the cables to run inside and keep the bees out. Thanks Steven H N8RLW

There is a service bulletin listed in repeater builder referring to a similar issue we had with large multiple MTR-2000 LTR system: https://www.repeater-builder.com/motorola/mtr2k/pdf/mtr2000-fsb10174.pdf, very old firmware issue. Updated firmware as bulletin advised, problem became less prevalent but instead of daily, now about every 2 or 3 days. With customers screaming daily, Took cowards way out and installed mechanical timers on each repeater, reset power daily, spaced out one repeater an hour apart, home channel we had a IP remote power switch. good afternoon I have a problem with a Motorola Dr3000 vhf (xpr8300) the repeater turns on, goes through its entire control cycle and goes into standby, the problem is that it does not transmit or receive, I checked the programming and everything is in order, it does not transmit or receive in either digital or analog. I checked the cables but it does not seem to have any problem, the LEDs remain on in standby, the Power ones and the analog and digital ones, the tx and rx LEDs do not light up when I try to excite it with a radio. do you have any advice? thanks

One of the local repeaters I maintain in N GA developed an issue over the weekend. Stopped receiving and was throwing an E49 error code, which cleared in a few seconds to be replaced with the normal 11 channel indicator. The RX lock light is out, so I'm assuming the VCO might be defective, given the error code. My problem is, I have no spare UHF VCOs. Might anyone have a spare RX VFO for an MSF5000, or if anyone has successfully repaired a failed one, I'd like to hear about what steps you took Thanks... ron KA3JIJ
