K2 brand LiFePo batteries aka "Grand Teton Energy" ? - * * * UPDATE * * *

开云体育

Okay, here is an update. I had to go over to Idaho yesterday on other business. I was about 50 miles from Rexburg, Idaho. I drove the extra distance. Grand Teton Energy was very easy to see from the main road going into town. Sort of small industrial complex, no surprise. Their section of the building looks like a standard warehouse. Two large doors with shipping docks for semis. And one "man door". I opened the door and walked in. As I was going in, two employees were leaving for the day. There was one man working at a desk. I talked with him some. I told him that I knew of someone who was having a problem with one of their batteries. That you had called for customer service for it. He said he didn't know what the problem was with the telephone. The lady who takes care of sales and customer service works from home. I just tried to telephone and no answer. I'm going to say that since she is working from home, to just keep trying or try email for them to call. Sorry Ran, that I didn't take your phone number with me. I had missed that in your email.

Their business space was quite large. They have pallets and pallets of batteries. There are a lot of work stations. These include areas for battery testing, system repairs, and design. There was a section set up for an employee break area for at least 8 people.

Bottom line: they are very much in business.

Subject: [repeater-builder] K2 brand LiFePo batteries aka "Grand Teton Energy" ?

> Based on a recommendation from a buddy, in October 2024 I bought a K2 brand LiFePo battery and charger for my upcoming solar-power GMRS repeater project. Now the battery is not holding a charge for more than a couple of weeks.
>
> The K2 company, formerly in Henderson NV now seems to be in Rexburg ID, according to their website. The copyright blurb at the bottom of the Contact Us page is dated 2025. The website shows pictures of their product line, and a lot of generic stock photos of happy people in an office.

> My problem is, when you call the phone number, there is voicemail that says "Thank you for calling Grand Teton Energy", and then "Press 1 for Sales, press 2 for Customer Service", then it rings a few times at both extensions, and the line goes dead.
>
> I've googled and there is no bankruptcy notice or any news that comes up about the company's current status. Does anyone here know anything about "K2" aka "Grand Teton Energy" ?

Another update: I've gotten several emails from a nice lady at K2 yesterday and they're going to send me another battery.
?
I suggested that she have somebody try to call their phone and whaddyknow, if someone is already on the phone, any new incoming call is dropped.?
?
Sounds like they should talk to their telecom vendor!!

It sounds like you are getting somewhere with your battery issue. Sorry I didn't get more done for you. It was still an interesting experience and worth the drive for me to know where they are and to see their place.

Maybe she needs a new battery for her phone!? lol

Nah, Mick, you proved that the place was legit! Very helpful.
?
More updates; of course, AFTER blaming the battery I did some internet research on the new-to-me Anytone 778 radio, and guess what? It has a default "feature" set at the factory where the radio doesn't actually power down completely, it goes into Sleep mode, and continues to draw power. So it powers up quicker, but it is draining the battery. Only a tiny "A" on the LED screen indicates that this "feature" is active. RTFM, as always.
?
This weekend I switched that "feature" Off, and left the battery connected. The battery was at 13.67 V and then overnight it was at 13.53 V.

The Grand Teton tech support guy says that is acceptable. And FWIW, he has been very responsive and seems to know his stuff AND he answered one of my emails on Sunday afternoon. So, big props to Grand Teton tech support.

I'm glad to hear and know that things have turned around from your first thoughts. Knowing they are being responsive and helping out.
