Can I use a low power programming cable to program high power astro spectra?

I have a programming cable I used to program a low power dash mount astro spectra. I have read that this cable is usable for programming a high power trunk mount astro spectra.
I'm not sure about the (B+) power cabling. Do I need to connect the heavy gauge vehicle battery cable (high power battery cable) to the spectra and NOT use the small gauge (fused) wire on the low power programming cable.
?
Will the astro 25 tuner ver. 5.04.00 program my astro spectra? I only require analog NB. No frills
?
I appreciate any guidance.

Tim,
?
You need the high power programming cable to do a high power Spectra or Astro Spectra which has a 25 pin connector - the 15 pin connector that the low power programming cable uses does not exist on the high power versions.
?
Astro Tuner is used to align the Radio, while Astro Spectra CPS is used to program the radio - I use V5.03, so 5.04 should do it as well.
?
Good luck - Kurt

The dash mount cable does not work on the high power.?

See this:

Astro25 is for XTL and Astro Spectra Plus. ?

If you don’t have an Astro Spectra Plus, you will need to use Astro Spectra CPS.?
5.03 is the latest.?

I hope that helps,

Will

And, (it bears constant repeating) original Astro CPS will launch/run on both 64 and 32 bit Windows but it will only physically talk to the radio on 32 bit. Astro Tuner lets you select higher com ports but only actually works on 1-4.

That basic issue is VERY common with software, especially Motorola software, of that vintage.
You need 32-bit, and generally a REAL RS-232 serial port. Some of these will work with certain USB adapters, but many won't.

A common problem is that the USB-serial adapter will be assigned a comport number that the software will not show as available to use.

But you can steer it to a lower number in Device Mangler.

This article will answer a bunch of your spectra questions.

As to computers, my primary field programming computer is a Toughbook CF-30 running 32-bit Win7pro.
I also have a CF-31 running Win10-64 for the newer stuff (like Moto APX).
Both live in a hiking backpack and get used at least once a week.
In fact on monday I was at one of the Sheriffs stations programming a couple of the volunteer's radios.

Here's probably too much on field programming computers, I should edit it and update it.
