Icom and Kenwood programing
Not actually repeater related, but ...
After an hour plus, with Mr. Google, I need to ask here Looking at a couple radios for our CERT operation, what can anyone tell me about programing : RT Systems doesn't appear to support either radio. Kenwood NX-3820,? Next -Edge radio, hopefully can program 423 to 450 ( at least) Both narrow and wide band Icom IC-F6021, also 423 to 450? Both narrow and wide band. The radio would be used on our 423 commercial channels as well as amateur. Is it worth messing with this, or should we just go with an amateur radio? ( not my first choice) I really like the Kenwood, because it will do analog, DMR and Next-edge |
Well, I can tell you the NX-3820 uses Kenwood KPG-D3N software. Only available from Kenwood, and each copy is tied to a PC, so no sharing. It does 400-470 in the normal version. But it's narrowband only. There may be a license that can be gotten to enable wideband programming, but I don't know anything about it.

The Icom might allow wideband, not sure. On 10/20/2022 1:53 PM, donritchie wrote:

Kenwood Dealers have versions of the KPG software that doesn't enforce NB. He needs to find a local one to do the deed for him
