Sinclair Q202GC Duplexers.

I recently purchased a set of these cavities in the cabinet. These are the ones with a tunable notch on top of the cavities. I'm having a hard time getting them to tune up to specs. On the website Eric Lemmon (SK) published a wiring diagram showing the cable lengths for the interconnecting cables. What I have doesn't come close but the biggest thing is the way they are connected to each other along with the Rx, Tx, and Ant port. Could someone annotate Eric's post with what hooks up where. The middle should be the antenna. In the high pass and low pass cavities the tuning loop is wired the same, just different in lengths by abt 1/2", ~4" & 4.5" with 1/2" spacing. No caps or inductors visible. The interconnects are made from RG213.

These things don't wire up what I am accustomed to and I think that's where part of my problem is. I plan on new cables (RG142 or 400). The current ones are 4 ea 10.5", 2ea 11.5", and a custom made "T' for the Antenna made from RG142 which is H 14" and L 13". The measurements are actual cable length, N to N, for a "T" add 1/2".? I have read everything I can find on RB but some of the technical stuff went over the top.

Please email a picture of how your wiring is done.? I have found some Q202GC which was in an hybrid ring configuration, which also confused me.

?

On most Q202 type duplexer you have a tuning Rod (Middle on top) and a tuning stub, something that slides in and out.

?

I have found the best cable for interlinking is RG214, as it is double shielded.? RG142 is not double shielded.

?

To determine the optimum cable lengths, I crimped one side and temp soldered the other, tested and then fine tuned the cable length by iteration.? This was most probably needed because the tuning stubs was not correct for my freq, but I could compensate with the cable lengths.

?

Here is a doc

?

Feel free to contact me directly if you require some advice.

It definitely is, in fact, double shielded.?

There are rather different versions of the Q202 – those with dielectric-tuned capacitors and those with piston trimmer capacitors.? The two have very different harnesses as well.? I can't tell from your original message which you have.? Post a pic of the duplexer you have and I'll give you the correct cable lengths.?

RG142 and RG400 mentioned by the OP is most certainly double shielded and silver plated.

The 4 connected directly to the cavities are 10.5" (cable end-end). The other 2 are 11.5". The cables to the Ant "T" are 13" & 14".

After trial and error I get the RX and TX down to 1.3dB ea. The Notches are HP 75dB and LP 87dB. Tuned to currently 146.84-146.24.

The Tuning stubs in the notches are 5". I made new ones from brass and will silver plate them today. The old were copper tubing.

Yeah, that's an old-style Q202.? The drawing that Eric drew does not apply to this one, it was for the later/current version Q202G.? Look at the old Q202 manual:?

Thanks for all of the help.

I have stuff on order to make new cables with RG400. I have some N M-F connector to use as extenders to make sure they don't need to be a bit longer.

As the author/article at theverge represented, Fry's has been "dead to us" for at least two years.? SF Bay Area stores - Campbell, Palo Alto, San Jose, Fremont, empty hollow depressing shells of their once go-to selves.? Skeleton crew of floor employees sadly paid to lie for a paycheck.?
