220Mhz ACSB amplifier

I have a few of these LMM 220 amplifiers.?

I drive it with .05w and it gives me 113W or so output. From the analyzer it looks very clean.
Of course these amps were not made for FM.
I have seen a few past posts where people would talk about these and several are in use, but there is only one post where someone said to bypass a capacitor to use on fm. No mention what cap he is referring to. For those who are familiar with this amp, enlighten me on your expirence or knowledge.
?
It would be real nice to convert the exciter and receiver to fm! That’s fairyland thinking…

All 220 Linear amps should work great on 220 FM without any mods except maybe the addition of a small fan but even the fan isn't really required.
?
?I had several Morrow electronics/UPS Aviation Technology/Garmin Aviation Technology 50 watt 220 MHz Linear amps from the days when they stole the lower half of the 220 ham band and they all work just fine on 220 FM for my remote base and as mobile amps without any mods at all.
?
I added a small fan but even without the fan I haven't killed any yet but for me it was a psychological thing just knowing that the transistor junction temp was always going to be below the data book max.? even if stuck in tx for an hour.
?
My amps are all around 50 watts out each and with a home brew wilkinson? combiner I have? around 90 watts going to the antenna.

Interesting subject and? Mike will 6M open to Oregon this year?
I evaluated a Linear Modulation Tech PA, w/ 24Vdc it took a +8dBm input to deliver 100W CW.
I considered using one for my ACSB repeater (yeah, really!)
I built a 2 channel combiner for it (pic attached). I combined 2 systems successfully, the short cavities are special design for a bit broader tuning for ACSB (thanks Wacom!)?
I was testing them into a commercial 200W PA made for a military application (all mode) then I accidentally switched it open circuit for a few millisecs (long story) and it went into oscillation and blew a transistor so the project was put on hold.
I intend to repair it or replace it with an ESP1100 PA.??
?
I believe James KB0HNX is using a Securicor PA for their 220 FM rptr in Nixa MO. He frequents the forum and might add how they are cooling it.?
Reid? W6MTF?

6M has been open MANY times over the past month or 2 to Oregon. And since we're at the peak of the cycle, this summer should be great!

South America, the Caribbean, South Pacific. Tons of DX

Ken,
?
We had boxes of 50 watt 220 linear amps in a cabinet down here at Garmin in Salem never touched for 15 years.
?
When I retired in January of this year I heard that they tossed everything in a recycling box and given to a recycler out in Independence? Or..
?
?

Chris,

I monitor 52.525 on my Syntor X9000 and 50.125 USB on a Kenwood TS-570DG 24/7 here in San Diego. We’ve had many openings including JA’s and points north. So many of us are listening.

These already have fans in them. Power supply too.
these amps are 28v.
working good so far. The way I look at it is, they are clean and they put out plenty of power. If they fail, so be it. Better than them sitting in the garage untouched!
