Into building repeaters?
Want to build your own repeater?
Repeater-Builder is a free technical group (free to you - we pay for a premium group plan) available to people seeking information on building ham radio, GMRS, or commercial repeater systems.
If you are a Spammer you'll not be able to post because all new members are moderated - so save yourself (and us) the time.
Discussion of amateur or commercial repeaters, duplexers, antennas, feedlines, controllers, linking, etc is encouraged. Email attachments are permitted and you as a member should protect yourself from viruses, as no protection is afforded by the group.
DO NOT post requests for Motorola radio programming software (RSS or CPS). Motorola's Legal Dept. polices many radio groups and we do not want to acquire their focused attention. Go ask on the Motorola_Software_Users group.
Casual For-Sale posts are okay. Please keep the FS subject matter on topic.
We do not profess to be the first group of this type, but we are certainly the largest. Many of our subscribers are well versed in all facets of radio and will provide quality answers to your questions. With over 5000 members subscribed, there is a very good information base to learn from.
This group is not for discussing FCC rules, proper operating practices, or brand loyalty (Motorola vs. GE) (HamVoIP vs. AllStar Link). It is here for providing quality technical information.

<div>Checkout the files section. Note: none of this is verified and YMMV, I don't have this radio! Just interest in such things and late night technical ramblings. </div>
<div>A check of the Service manual SM-2000 and it appears when the CPU puts the radio in programming mode (as per the programming manual) it switches over three lines IC412 4053.</div>
<div>DO, DI and SK from their normal functions on the 6pin RJ MIC connector , PTT, Mic and Hanger. CS is also needed for 93C46 EEProm is present on the Mic connector. </div>
<div>Tried the software SMP4004C in Dosbox-x and boy I miss the simple DOS programs, that actually work in a small amount of code. </div>
<div>Just don't know how they generate the SK = serial clock pulses. The SMP2000 cable looks like a 9pin D to the 6 pin mic plug. Maybe worth a CRO look at the pins when trying to program to determine if there is a clock pulse there somewhere! CCT also shows an 8 pin socket inside the radio with same programing pins. </div>
<div>Â </div>
<div>Otherwise?</div>
<div>Then as a last resort I found <a href="https://g4iyt.uk/maxon-pm100-programming/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Maxon PM100 V2 Programming</a> page to directly read the EEProm and be able to write data from the software back into it. Again all care and no responsibility!  </div>
<div><a href="https://www.repeater-builder.com/ge/maxon-prgmg.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Programming the Maxon SM-4150M or the GE Monogram Mobile Radios</a> might be useful information too. </div>

<div>After two years they have not provided a clickable link from their main page. They call them "bushings" but I get a different page that what he posted. </div>
<div>But yea, I'm used to the  "as your favorite monopoly" since I'm a windows clone. I think you were thinking about amazon, which I do a lot of shopping. They are sooo handy.</div>

<div><br/>Also, I noticed by adding attachments here on this Group it strips off the parentheses  "( )" (file name change).  Strange. At least it appears this way (logging in the site).</div>
<div>Perhaps the "email" way (that most folks use) keeps them? Â I'll have to ask Kevin some day if that's an anti-spam thing. Â </div>

<div dir="ltr">Naw....I have my 146.94 just down the road.....higher and better coverage......the 147.06 is owned by DOW (formerly Dupont) but they moved it off the plant property without approval...and put it on a tower built by DPS.....how they got on it is anyone's guess....originally it was a Kenwood TKR750....the wideband filter went out so instead of changing it, they put it in NB mode.....that was some smart thinking there.....noone was told it was NB......then they changed it to a YSF rptr...but no internet at the site...and that junk Yaesu has issues.....Nope, I don't want the hassles...but considering the good ole boy network around here, I'll just keep to my systems...of course, as N5CIE told me once at a QCWA lunch, they are jealous of my operation....I don't care.....the clubs are being run by controlling ex CBers now spreading rumors about me....our ARRL DEC made a statement at a club meeting once that TX and Louisiana cops can't talk to each other...WOW....guess he never read NIFOG...and the amount of interop channels on V/U/7/800 LOL!!!! What a dunce...20-30 yrs ago we all worked together and helped each other....now, if you aren't part of the cliche, you're a "shady" character (YES they said that about me.....) Last night at the club meeting they talked about putting Allstar on two rptrs here in the area....I've had it on mine for 4 yrs..(copying is the highest form of flattery I guess)...BUT the other sites don't have internet (they COULD install it there), so they plan to use remote radios at residential locations to talk to the rptr .....20:1 they won't do it legal (ID on the uplink, not send CT or IDs over the downlink and out Allstar)......I have internet at my site....the Pi4 is plugged into a port on the RLC controller so I have multiple ways to control, split it off, etc....I mentioned at one other club meeting a year ago they should just get internet at a site that has a YSF (they keep talking about doing a wireless link back to a site for that; thats been 4 years now)....it never has been done and the club has $6000 in the treasury.....they could get ATT or a hotspot from T Mobile or Verison at residential rates...Nope...they didnt think of it so they arent going to do it.....and of course all the YSFs here are standalone....wow.....that's a great use of them...LOL</div>setxtelecom@... <div>Last night at the Orange Club meeting, I saw another testament to the dumbing down of America and ham radio.....</div>
<div>The question was asked why the 147.06 rptr was down and the answer given was "It was down for maintenance"....I could not believe my ears....at the end of the meeting I walked to the new ham who made that statement and looked him in the eye and said "Nice LIE...its off because the license expired a month ago and it was still on the air illegally..." He replied yep....</div>

<div>WTH??? You have to LIE about something like that??? Hell, I forgot to file the renewal on my AM station in Lumberton and finally got it done the DAY before it expired....I got hit with a $1500 fine from the FCC....and that was it.....I didn't lie, I FORGOT......and paid the fine and moved on....didn't hurt anyone and didn't affect my standing with the FCC...</div>
<div>SO WHY THE HELL did this lie about 147.06 come up?? Too arrogant to admit the trustee (who lives in Groves and the 06 rptr is NOT part of the Orange Club) forgot to file the renewal? They didn't want to look stupid??? They think they can pull the wool over people's eyes?? WTH??? </div>

Ahh I see: Kenwood was smart & made the serial pins the same as the
standard DB-25 serial connection. But since they stopped putting
DB-25s on PCs about 30 years ago I don't have DB-25 serial cables
anymore. I do happen to have some DE-9 to DB-25 adapters that I
haven't thrown out yet; guess they're good for something now.<br/><br/>

It is my understanding that the prog. cable plugs into the mike socket (RJ). My SM 2150 has a 15 pin connector directly above the +12 VDC wires. Would this be a prog. connection? I have no info on this connector. Having the rear connector confuses things.

I'm not certain whether the radio programs thru the mic. connector or the rear connector. If the rear connector is for programming, then the SMP2000 would be an incorrect cable.

<div>Chad,</div>
<div>I think you have made the correct decision.</div>
<div>Â </div>
<div>Glad Ken chimed in also. Ken is a Kenwood dealer and also sold TPL amps back in the day. I have purchased several TKR-750 and 850's from him and a few TPL amps as well.</div>
<div>Â </div>
<div>Do like Ken suggested, start at 1 watt and bump it up until you are where you want to be for power out. Once you get to that point, have your guy look at it on a spectrum analyzer to make sure the amp is happy.</div>
