One question is with regards to ground. In the service manual it shows pin 12 as RA/RD ground and pin 19 as TX signal ground. It labels them as (for RX, RD ground only) & (for TX, TD ground only)?

Sounds like you are on the right track, just make sure you are running KPG-29D on a computer running DOS (No Windoze). Correct factory cable is a KPG-4 which has a 25 pin serial

These are similar to what we have "upgraded" to for our MTR2k board. Ours do not have the voltmeter integrated. We also swap the variable device for a fixed 5v one.

These are the ones I use.? They are nice to reassure you that the Pi and modem are getting the correct voltage.? You can check the supply voltage at the same time by pushing a button on the unit.?
