Re: DB-420 bottom half 470-490 MHz cut antenna project.

In my testing the load was indeed going to be taking half the power. After all that is what the harness is supposed to do, divide power for both 8-bay halves to work properly. The purpose of using a 50 Ohm load was to sweep what I had so I knew what band it was on and that what is there is still in good electrical condition. It is a project or for whoever is interested in it.

Re: DB-420 bottom half 470-490 MHz cut antenna project.

? Looking at an old DB420 here there is a molded triangular shaped splitter junction on the bottom section that heads off to the top section.

At that mid-point splice, the pointy part of the triangle feeds the top section and the leg that doesn't have a matching section attached to it feeds the bottom section. At the splice, the Z of each of those antenna halves' feeders is 50 ohms, and result of the two in parallel is 25 ohms.

The third port on that splice goes to the feedpoint via a long pigtail with a 35 ohm matching section at the tee. That Q section converts the 25 ohms of the two halves of the antenna in parallel up to 50 ohms.

If you were to open the "upper halve" at the tee, you would have 50 ohms instead of 25 ohms. 50 ohms followed by the 35 ohm Q section would yield 25 ohms, or a 2:1 VSWR.

The right way to use only the lower half of the DB420 harness would be to cut off the 50 ohm cable that feeds the lower four bays and use that cable as your new feedpoint. Or find a DB408 harness.

Re: DB-420 bottom half 470-490 MHz cut antenna project.

Looking at an old DB420 here there is a molded triangular shaped splitter junction on the bottom section that heads off to the top section. If you terminate the coax that went to the top section with a load it will eat up about half your power. I might consider cutting the coax leg off that went to the top section right at the triangular splitter and water proof it. That will leave an inch or so open stub of coax flapping in the breeze but shouldn't affect things much.?

Re: DB-420 bottom half 470-490 MHz cut antenna project.

Joe,
? It is the bottom half of the antenna less mast, so yeah it has the harness and a female "N" connector for the top half to connect to. It includes the bottom half loops and clamps with stainless hardware as well all curled up in a box to save on shipping costs.?
?
Mike,
? As far as how do you deal with it, I don't know? I just screwed a 5 Watt 50 Ohm load on the end to sweep it for what band cut it was for besides the physical measurements of the loops themselves. As for how it was originally used, someone took the top half or it was separated in our warehouse or I would have had the whole thing together but I only ended up with a bottom half.

Re: Scom 7330 repeater controller software

I distinctly remember there was some difference between the two repeaters as to pinout. Like I said though, maybe they were close enough that it doesn't matter for ham applications.
Oh well...

They are a good 1.5-2" shorter than the 450-470MHz cut versions I have used in the past. The harness is in great shape and there is no damage to the hardware. Basically it is laid out like a DB-408 with the connector at the top of the harness to feed another DB-408 making up the full DB-420 16-bay array. I will ship it less the bottom half of the mast to anyone needing it or interested in a project for $150 + actual shipping to you.
?
Maybe it can work on GMRS frequencies since they are quite broad banded, maybe the harness can be terminated at the mid-point connector and used as is, maybe someone can modify the harness and use it as is. Basically it is a project or for someone with a damaged bottom half of your DB-420 higher cut that needs the parts.

I don't see many parts for these come up anywhere so I figured list for the RB group.

2. in set menu of the baofeng.. set VOX on. set TX delay if baofeng?

Forgot to mention the repeater comes with a 12v. AC power supply installed in the other half of the cabinet that will be included in the sale. It is the 17A power supply with thermal fan from a Motorola GR1225 that comes built into the bottom of the repeater. Fits well and has two Kenwood style power connectors, one plugged into the repeater to run it, the other is an accessory for other DC 12v. needs. There is a switch to switch from continuous fan or thermal which it is set to now. All included with this TKR-850 repeater sale.
