Re: z matcher schematic

I've built several 2 M. Z-matchers, using either piston or APC air variable caps around 30 pf maximum, and a coil of 3 turns of Nr 22 wire, 1/4" i.d.? These 3 components are wired in a Pi configuration.? Keep the coil leads short.

Tone remote interfacing for dummies?

Hi smart folks,

I¡¯ve read a fair bit on the site and on the Internet at large about how tone remote stuff works. I think I understand the theory fairly well. What I¡¯m less clear on is how people go about interfacing it with regular radios.

I have an old Motorola CommandPlus dispatch console, and would love to interface it locally with some radios¡ªnot fancy stuff with a tone remote interface, but stuff like a tri-band Kenwood mobile and a Motorola CDM. I really want to just turn the tone-remote signaling into bidirectional audio and some basic PTT keying.?

The tone signaling is seemingly the wrong tool for the job here, but it¡¯s the one I have. It looks like E&M signaling for the console is an expensive hardware kit for something not really produced anymore. But the tone remote stuff seems to keep coming up in miscellaneous other stuff.

Are there some favored tools for converting between tone interfaces and audio/COS/PTT? Did anyone ever made a Raspberry Pi sort of interface?

Thanks for indulging my curiosity about an overly complicated project.

Matt, N1ZYY

Re: R1225 Ribbon Cable set

I am not currently in a position to part with them, but in case a close-up photo is helpful, please see attached.

It is my understanding from the Repeater Builder page that they¡¯re 0.1¡± spaced. They look somewhat like old IDE drive cables, but those had two rows. I don¡¯t know if they are actually compatible spacing.

I recently bought a few old R1225s that had a weird adapter on the front. You do not need the full control head to run the repeater, or even to program them. Third photo is of the oddball connector¡ªnote also the jumper to the left to power it on. This had an RJ-45 port seemingly for programming. This was a weird setup, but the point is that you can get by without the control head if required.

Is the audio available on the control board, just not brought out to the accessory connector?

Does anyone know if the Kenwood TKR-D810 can support external audio in and out when used in analog mode?

Looking at the service manual and the pinout for the DB-25F "Control I/O" connector, there are pins labeled "TA, TD, RA, RD" but they say "not used".

Anyone dealt with something like this? Curious.

Also, anyone know how the things do out of band (i.e. 450-520MHz unit down to 440MHz)?

Any thoughts?

The GM300 head has two connectors, like the R1225 head.

Yes, the volume control and microphone jack of the GM300 head works on an R1225
(the speaker works as well as long as the 15-to-16 jumper on the R1225 accessory connector is there).

Don't waste your time with the display cable. It's a different pinout.
It would take rewiring the cable and a few etch cuts and jumpers on the GM300 display board to get everything working.

Rick:? I wasn't aware that you had R1225s anywhere?

Re: Serial port on Kenwood NXR-710 - Requires software?

No difference as far as interfacing to an external controller.

The question was regarding a TKR-D710/D810, which is a DMR/Analog repeater. The? NXR-710/810 are NextEdge/Analog repeaters.

Kenwood made the choice to now allow their DMR repeaters to use an external controller for analog use. It's interesting to note that Kenwood released the TKR-D series just before they acquired EF Johnson and another company (whose name escapes me at the moment) that specialized in DMR equiprment, located in Texas

It only works with the KPG software or to upload new firmware using their Fpro software.

On a side note, you can use the DB25 on the back panel of the NXR for your serial connection when using the KPG software (but you must use the mic when using Fpro)

Re: Serial port on Kenwood NXR-710 - Requires software?

NXR can do NXDN digital modulation.
If you mean the TKR-D810, it does DMR.
Why they didn't bring audio out the rear connector on the D810 is beyond me.
They would, because of TDMA, have to have added something to tell it which slot to use for back there. Seems like it wouldn't have been that hard, but who knows...

Re: Up for sale on Hamradioauctions.com

I find it very distasteful to pay tax on something I'm taking a loss on from its original purchase price plus the state is collecting sales tax via PayPal or other service.? Who keeps paperwork on something they bought 30 years ago other than a business?? Absolutely ridiculous in my book.? Anyone else here remember when the state of Ohio was at the Dayton hamvention trying to get tailgaters to charge sales tax?? Many people just packed up and left.??
