Not really. some do, but not many. I know I don't have any made for ham stuff that does. Well, out side of my HF rig...

Re: Occupied bandwidth - (was Windows 7 config)
I dare say we've been facing a new 'dimension', in the realm of hotspots... many new entrants get (an economical) taste of having their own personal portal to "work the world" with a 5 watt talkie and 10mW - 1 watt (?) IP interface (Skype via radio?)? "This is great, now if only I could get more range..."? ?If we thought $20 import talkies were ugly. take a $5 key fob 'radio', add some LMR-400 and a dual-band j-pole on the roof... plus or minus the variable of where they are programmed.? 'better' on the roof of a multi-story apartment building, office... snuck in the cabinet of a radio site.? Many of course have no clue, no Elmer (or not a good one), no test equipment. Some of us pushed for the piStar s/w engineers to at least restrict some of the frequency programming to respect satellite, weak signal, etc. but 430-440 is the UHF spectrum for much of the non-US world.? That still leaves ill-defined spectrum there, and a lack of understanding/awareness of band plans, coordination in 440-450.? Who hasn't had a hotspot show up on a repeater input?? "but I'm digital, we don't get interference..." - so can't cause any either?? ?I'm due to help a US-based AllStar hotspot vendor document cautions and mitigation methods so their customers don't screw up too badly. Surely it was "interesting times" going from AM to SSB, AM to FM, wide to narrow, certainly narrow to narrower. Part 97 is weak on (absent current) tech specs.? Measuring occupied bandwidth is a stretch if not 'impossible' for some of us, but hopefully we can do something to mitigate on-air disaster.? We're the senior experts, well, most of y'all are, some of us are expected to be and we do reach out.? It's good that a lot of us are willing, able and are helping.? Someone helped us, and if not us, who to help new folks not mess things up for us now, and the what the future holds.?? Appreciate y'all for my meager ability to realize how not to mess up the airwaves too much, or for long. |

Re: LDG dealer in Canada?
I bought one of the first models in kit form.? Very versatile.? The 100 models are fairly lightweight and easily shipping.?
Very low current drain, and has a sleep mode with the relays latched for the last tune.? The only thing I would suggest is maybe the cable allows you to push the tune button on the radio and drops the power when tuning.? Typically, only a few watts are needed to go through the tuneup and it saves wear and tear on the relays in the tuner and the radio.? I use mine as a remote tuner with a TS2000 mobile and just set the radio to AM with the power set to 5W in AM mode, so tune up is easy.? If the SWR changes when you go to full power, It means something is heating in your tuner or antenna or there is high RF somewhere.? If you can't find a good match in 10 seconds, you need to work on your antenna. During tuneup, it will be tuning a sequence to arrive at a proper match and will sound like an old engine with loose tappets.? Until the match is found, there may be very high voltages or currents at certain combinations of L and C.? These high voltages and currents may cause weird things to happen to the radio or the tuner circuits and is common with all tuners.? Doing the actual tuning at low power is a good idea for any tuner. |

Here is a scan of some of the 90 watt PA stuff. Is this enough?

East Haddam, CT. I can put the PA board and manual in a box to save weight.

Hi Joe, I have two 90watt transmitters, two 45watt transmitters, and a spare 90watt board. Just need the manual. Basically the PA board schematics. Tempting offer, but those units are heavy. Where do you live? Frank N6CESOn Sun, Nov 6, 2022, 3:33 PM Joe <k1ike_mail@...> wrote: Frank, |

The manual for the QT5700/6700 is bigger that what I really want to scan. Are you interested in another amplifier? I have one in the shed and I was going to sell it cheap to get rid of it with the manual. If your interested, $10 (for coffee and a couple of donuts), plus shipping for the 6700 and the manual. I can send photos if you are interested. Joe On 11/6/2022 1:07 PM, Frank Perkins wrote:

If you take care of a fleet, you learn to setup the external mic level to high because the "particular individuals" are always mumbling out of the side of their mouth and the mic is somewhere on his shirt pocket.? But the Karen hall monitors are screaming and eating the mic if they don't have an external.? Users are never duplex so have no clue how THEY sound.? There must be voodoo in the minds of some.? One time I saw a security guy talking into a portable by holding it upside down by the antenna, and keying the radio and talking into it with the other.? I have no clue why.? The repeater guy has to do whatever he can. The T1600 remotes were the best ever and at times the audio would be a little low and noisy and we found the wire line was dead broke but the 30db of slow agc would compensate.? I have been looking for a manual in pdf for posterity.? Some great ideas there. I noticed from the repeater pix on K6OQK website that he was using a processor.? So it's likely he spent some time getting it right.? You can go higher if you use a different pre-emphasis and roll off the higher end.? The result is a little flatter but still has enough of the highs for easier listening.? There must be some leveling and low pass filtering so that something going through the audio chain won't over deviate.? FM sidebands are not anything like AM or SSB sidebands.? The casual observer or imitator won't get that it is in the Orban. On Sun, Nov 6, 2022 at 06:39 AM, nj902 wrote:

Re: QUANTAR VHF Audio Interface...
Chuck,
This is why I figure it's better to do what I can on the repeater's end.? I have better and more fun fights to pick . :} Burt, K6OQK *** "Someone" questioned me about a ham rig that they had and I looked it up and it had low/medium/high mic level settings. I do not recall what rig, but the individual refused to change it anyway, even after I gave them the menu number.? I also know of some radios that have no adjustment. Chuck WB2EDV |

"I also made copies of a boot drive of a Dell 755 and plug it into another Dell 755 and it will boot, etc. with all the drivers, but I recall that it will eventually ask for new Product Keys for the various softwares on the new OS disk.? But this is never a problem when you put it back in the very same computer." Yes this is a problem because the digital ID at usoft on one machine won't be same for the other machine and will blow your activation.? IF you imaged or cloned the boot and system installation from one Dell 755 to another fresh drive everything would be happy in that same machine, but it might fail if you kept swapping boot drives or swapped between different but same model machines.? Usoft would "know" you had the same installation on 2 different machines.? Other software may also see you are exceeding their licensing and break.? I found this out when swapping back and forth between Win7, Win8 and 10 on the same machine by swapping in different drives.? You can do it but if you do it too often Usoft will blow your activation.? This is also a problem for multi-booting.? DOS, Win9x, XP can be done but the digital ID from win7 and up was made so you could upgrade or downgrade, but not too often.?? You know more about RAID than I do.? I saw that rebuilding might take longer than just keeping my important files backed up in different machines and external drives and just clone or image the system installation to get things back to normal quickly. On Hirens, I find them useful for older machines.? Some of my newer machines have devices that aren't recognized.? I suppose I could remaster with newer drivers.? Also beware you may have to make changes in bios and do a proper shutdown to be able to even use a boot disk,? and laptops will kill the battery and overheat unless you do force it to power save, or you will be running max everything just looking at a DOS prompt. |
Re: Scantenna ?
Not sure if that is the same manufacturer from the 70s that was using repurposed TV antennas.?
That actually works to a great extent, but the SWR variations may be too wide for transmitting.? Still you can take a standard design antenna and do some pruning and matching to improve on the SWR performance if you got tired of the TV.? |
