Re: OT: Fry's Closed
Sad to hear this.? That used to be a great place to shop.? Thankfully MicroCenter seems to still be doing well for computer and maker stuff - if you have one in your area. Don't forget it has been just as hard or harder on the smaller businesses.? Businesses like my good friends at Debco Electronics have been dealing with losing all of their hamfest income while also dealing with competition from online vendors like Amazon.? I sure hope some of the electronics parts businesses like Debco and Ham vendors like R & L make it through this pandemic. If you need something contact the "little guys" before you jump on Amazon or another larger vendor's site.? They need every penny of your business during these times and they truly appreciate it.? Good luck getting in contact with an actual person at Amazon.? To them you are just another insignificant number. Re: Anyone here familiar with a Zetron model 42 controller?
开云体育Yeah, that was a common issue with early Zetron products that were designed prior to any real RS-232 standard existing for DE-9's.? If memory serves, they used pins 3 and 4 instead of 2 and 3 for data.? And I think pin 2 was either +5V or +12V for powering external equipment.? I forget what ground was...should be able to ohm it out to chassis if nothing else. ? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? --- Jeff WN3A ? ? Anyone here familiar with a Zetron model 42 controller?
Yes, it's a LTR controller, and not of much interest to hams...? but I'm helping a gentleman with an LTR system that uses the Zetron 42s....? and the manual sucks in the area of establishing serial communication with them. So a request.. if anyone here knows the magical incantation needed to make the front panel DB9 port work I'd be interested in chatting with you.? I have two systems each with several Zetron 42s and I need to drain the billing data. |

Hey Bob NO6B: if you want to suggest "removing Bomar from the crystal suppliers list" you need to contact the person listed at the top of that "suppliers" page. Clicking his name will bring you to a contact page. That's a rather bad advert for a company: buy our product, & maybe you'll get lucky & get one that works. I'll hold off on making a recommendation until I get my Krystaly order. If they work out I think it really would be best to replace the Bomar listing. Bob NO6B |
Re: COR Signal from HT1000 (or similar) for Remote Receiver
Eric Grabowski
Tony, while this may not work for you, I want to mention something our club did to maintain temperature stability at a remote site subject to wild ambient temperature swings. We mounted the remote receiver and link transmitter in a homemade wooden box slightly larger than necessary to house the equipment. Both the receiver and transmitter were crystal controlled and not in heated ovens. Then we placed a small incandescent bulb inside the box. This kept the equipment at a fairly constant temperature once it reached equilibrium. I don't recall if the bulb was one of the larger Christmas tree types or an oven lamp but either way it was not many watts. This was back in the 1970s. The radios were Midland ham grade mobiles. It was an inexpensive solution that worked for years until we had the money to upgrade to commercial radios with TCXOs. 73 and aloha, Eric KH6CQ
