Re: Krystaly crystals needs crystal parameters for MVP
That's correct, Joe. Same formulas & general parameters. -W6XC On Wed, Jan 13, 2021 at 6:37 PM Joe <k1ike_mail@...> wrote: On 1/13/2021 7:33 PM, Bob Dengler wrote: |

Clamp meter
Hi folks, I recently purchased this meter off of Amazon and it appears to be a good one for $50 OTD.? Well at least, as long as China stuff does.? I've made my measurements in load center and I'm here to tell you it's much safer than putting a DVM (in AC current mode) across the breaker's terminals alone.? I was surprised it was accurate measuring frequency !?? Of course, now their web site says it NLA. Go figure. Perhaps other places have it.

Re: "Rad Block" Exposure Meter
Mark, Not to be a smart-alect, but you could hold this device at the focal point of a FAA radar or height finder, then deduce about 30 dB of intensity for cell towers.? But getting them to let you do that may be tricky.? Maybe attach it to your drone and do a "fly-by" LOL.? Seriously, in my days in the Air Force I remember "them" saying if you want to have kids, don't walk in front of the dish. That was for tropo stations. They run around a 90 dbm.? In my earlier days of climbing "live" FM towers was not a bright idea.? But we do stupid things in our 20's.

Re: Sinclair Cavities
Clif, No thoughts on the value, but it looks like a BpBr type, similar to the Wacom brand.? If you have a way to check it out prior that would be best. If the bottom of the cans can be open then in the worse case you can do repairs.? Most of this type are secure with ether a set of screws or rivets.

Re: Krystaly crystals needs crystal parameters for MVP
Tony, I have to agree with what you said, That's what shyed me away from QL.? The vendor in CA, USA, I've been using has been good and they come up with the parameters.?

Need compensated channel elements for 440 mitrek
Would anyone know where I could find or have made a pair of compensated channel elements for a 440 mitrek for 446.860- or 446.88- (scrrba test pair) or possibly 440.500 or 440.550 (test pair in arizona.)
Last I knew international crystal was the place to go, but they are no longer and since I have had trouble finding anyone that will do good quality channel elements and properly compensate them so the radio stays on frequency day, night, winter, and summer. (Now if someone would just make channel elements with an sma connector in the case for the 10mhz gpsdo signal input......) Eric Af6ep Sent using SMTP. |

If an xtal company has to ask, I would go with Quartslab. At least they have the parameters. Otherwise, you may have to go with them anyway. Save yourself the time and frustration.
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an order to Quartslab. Not looking forward to the price tag. It will most likely be my last xtal order ever.

What band MVP?? It may make a difference.? Receive or transmit?

Sinclair Cavities
I'm looking at a set (not physically yet) for VHF. They are in a cabinet which has seen better days but the cavities look good. He said they are 6" in diameter (4 ea) and they have a tuning stub mounted on each one. Best guessing is the Q204 series. Currently tuned to 146 range. Any thoughts? Value?

Re: "Rad Block" Exposure Meter
I think there is some confusion here. The Rad Block meter measures Electro Magnetic (EM) fields, not ionizing radiation like a Geiger Mueller tube. However, my wife was trying to find an ionizing radiation detector and most of the Amazon results pointed toward EM detectors that claimed to do both.
The Rad Block most assuredly is not a laboratory device . It is only useful for finding hot spots if it can perform that at all.? It is the modern version of the "tri-field meter" The FCC and ARRL give guidance on how to calculate safe distances from amateur antennas. To actually measure those fields in the real environment takes expensive, calibrated gear and lengthy procedures. At best, if this device worked, you may be able to demonstrate some relative levels around an antenna, for example hot spot on axis with the radiated signal versus off axis. I doubt any of this would satisfy a neighbor who is afraid of EM "radiation". I was once asked to approach a city council about the safety of a microwave dish on the side of a residential building, looking away. I brought a 3 cell mag light and explained that the flashlight emitted the same tiny power as the microwave radio, but was focused to? another distant antenna where the signal would be dissipated and weak. I demonstrated that above their dais on the wall. The city council was satisfied, had no questions. Then someone asked for an "expert" to come in and a PHD came in and gave a "scientific dissertation" and the proposal was turned down. -- The Real RFI-EMI-GUY |
