Re: How many hams have private repeaters? #poll-notice

Well time for me to throw to half Pennie¡¯s into the mess. And I fall directly into this question. I put my own DMR system because dmr around me sucks and the coverage is worth crap.?
those hotspot things are about as useless as the coverage is so I put my own. I tried to listing the machine with my RepeaterBook but they refuse to list the machine.?
so screw it I return it in when I want run a weird color code and I get the coverage I want.?
no one else near uses it because well it hasn¡¯t been listed. Does it make MY machine private. Kinda but not on purpose.?
I run gmrs ? Even got a two meter machine out of a dead xpr8400.?
As for owning a frequency that¡¯s a WB2hww thing.?
go on his machine and he¡¯ll start with I own you and every time I inlet it¡¯ll make you want to talk.?

Hi to All,

?

For part to finish a project I am looking for a Tait T500 VHF Mobile.

?

I know this radio was not to good even new with plastic cover and is very out of date but hoping someone has one laying around?

?

I know Marconi sold this radio also with their sticker on them but can¡¯t remember the model¡

Thank you for looking.

Re: Digital voice vs analog

In the case of the processing on W6MEP, the pre-emphasis is part of the ORBAN 8100A processor and the two work together to maintain deviation.? The processing consists of both gated AGC and a peak limiter.? Pre-emhasis and de-emphasis can only be correct if the transmitters and receivers are in agreement - so to speak.? I look at it this way... It's like a tone control on a radio; you tweak it to where you like the way it sounds.? I ask, what should the transmitter pre-emphais be to work with all radios?? I think audio processing, if done well, is a good thing for a repeater.? I don't worry about things being linear, I worry about things sounding good.? The input and output sound the same except that on the output the levels are much more consistent.? I think if you were to listen to W6MEP, you'd agree.
?
Thanks,

Re: DR-2X Failure to Switch to DC

I¡¯ll check to see if the battery is under the required voltage.?

I have a battery tender from a motorcycle I no longer own. Guess I¡¯ll add that to trickle the backup battery.?

Re: DR-2X Failure to Switch to DC

While I like your idea of operating a battery and forgoing the AC all together, that would limit the output power to 20 watts.?

Re: GE Rangr X2212 memory raw data help

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Tyler,
I remember that X2212 chip in a 1/2 tape drive, CDC or something 1980ish.

For the Tait T800 series with eproms, I've just programmed? a 25KHz
channel spacing eprom covering 146.000 to 147.975 MHz. Since the channels
are selected with a DIP switch in the T837-25 Tx and Rx modules, why not
program all possible 2m channels allowing simple frequency changing.

Is there any interest here, yes you guys need a 15KHz or 30KHz set?

Originally a 27C64 eprom but the NM27C256 is much more common.

The two DR-2X that we own say that you can¡¯t recharge the battery from the repeater. It says you need an external regulated charger to recharge the battery.?

Yeah when I searched for "FCC Rules" the first hit was this group: "This group is not for discussing FCC rules, ..."? Turns out I was already subscribed to it - been there for over a year.? It did show up as the 8th result in the search, probably because of it's current small size.

MTR 2000 - PA fan reports not work, but it is working

MTR2000 (UHF, 100w) which is reporting a PA fan fault, but the fan is spinning.? No funny noises of on fan behavior observed.? PS fan spins brief and then stops and is not reporting any faults.
These fans are 2 wire fans, so its not a problem with a sense line.? Has anyone seen this before and what was the resolution?

Re: GE Delta/Rangr programming

Tyler,?

I was mistaken on the par number. I have two models of radio interface here: TQ3370 and TQ3330.?

The TQ3330 is marked RANGR/DELTA with a cable. I have two TQ3370s (one new in a sealed bag) and some assorted cables. I remember reading somewhere that the newer interface would only program EDACS versions on the RANGR. Should be able to search those part numbers for more info. I believe there's another groups up forum for GE/Ericsson/Tyco/MACom/Harris with more info as well.?

Tyler,

Ask around to see if any of the older 2-way shops
still have a TQ2312 *suitcase* programmer. I have 2
of them which still work :)

If you don't plan to change frequencies, you don't need
any type of head. The channels can be selected using
BCD on the main connector.

I think Jeff has one as well.

Actually - the definition says this - exactly:

I had deleted the thread - because this group is NOT for discussing FCC Rules and Regulations.? And? - I could care less if someone is challenging them.

There is a micro fuse in the Yaesu supply that enables charging the battery. ?If the battery is very dead when the AC power restores there is a good probability that the fuse blew. You can open the case and check the fuse, OR put a battery on the repeater with an external charger and forgo the AC input.?

Oh, it probably did, then when power came back, the supply in the Yaesu Crow-bared or whatever it does.?? It's a common problem.?? I don't know the fix, other than don't let the Yaesu attempt to charge it.

Oh, disconnect the battery, and remove power for a minute.?? Your Yaesu will come back to life when you reapply power.

Burt; Can you share what audio processor used in the W6MEP? Thanks K4SAT

Analog compression and digital compression are obviously two different things.? As I recall, this thread started out talking about the difference between analog audio and digital audio.? This covers quite a bit of territory, observations, and differences in equipment.
?
Regarding analog as used in two-way radios: I've found considerable differences between one manufacturer and another as to their pre-emphasis and de-emphasis, as well as other audio characteristics.? OK, this really only affects the tonal quality and does not normally cause artifacts, which is really what a lot of us are talking about.? As far as clippers in radios... some people seem to overdrive limiters/clippers to get more consistent audio levels.? That's not the way to do it.? Some think that 5 kHz deviation in should cause 5 kHz deviation out.? I disagree.
?
OK, as you all know I have W6MEP, an analog only repeater.? I spend a lot of time listening to it and I'm constantly evaluating the audio as heard on my various radios; a Yaesu FT-290R, an ICOM 2300H, a Motorola XTL, as well as others.? They all sound different to me.? So, where is the standard?? W6MEP has audio processing that increases or decreases audio gain as necessary to maintain a reasonably constant audio level to the end user without noticeable or annoying gain riding.? It's pretty linear in audio response and voice characteristics, it's not linear in audio level - deliberately. ?? The bottom line is I try to make W6MEP sound pleasing.
?
I remember many years ago when I was at an SMPTE meeting where there was a fellow from Technicolor talking with a fellow from some other company.? The fellow from the other company told the fellow from Technicolor that their colorimetry was incorrect.? The fellow from Technicolor replied, We don't try and produce correct colorimetry, we try to make pleasing pictures.
?
I sometimes think we tend to forget what the real purpose of a repeater is: to assist in communications over long or difficult paths, and to do it as pleasantly as possible.? It's not a piece of test equipment.? That's my opinion and my goal.
