mechanical tuned reeds to decode and encode CTCSS tones. These reeds would keep running for a short time and the radio would be on open squelch, and you would hear the noise squelch close with a "Ker-Chunk" The reverse burst turned the CTCSS tone around 180 degrees and this caused the reeds to slam to a stop, causing the receiver squelch to shut before the user heard any "Ker-Chunk" RUS Receiver Un-squelched COS Carrier Operated Switch (sometimes called Carrier Operated Squelch) All standard squelch circuits have a section that will switch a voltage on or off when the squelch is opened. These voltages mute the receiver, sometimes in concert with a tone decoder. These voltages can also feed a COS or COR unit that amplifies this voltage and then sends a control signal (voltage) to a repeater controller or in the tube days the COR contacts would key the transmitter in a repeater. By adding a large capacitor on the relay coil circuit you could add a small amount of delay keeping the transmitter keyed when the receiver was receiving a weak signal that was dropping out. The COR was built with a tube 12AT7 (can not remember for sure) that took the small voltage from the receiver squelch and amplified it to turn the second side of the tube into a switch controlling the relay in the plate line of that tube section. In the early 1960s I worked on Motorola Sensicon A gear that had been built in the late 40s with just such a system. We had a remote base station on the mountain top with a 35 Mhz receiver and a 43 Mhz transmitter controlled by a 72 and 75 MHz link radios, full duplex. A couple of things,
First I'm looking for a schematic of a Power Supply for a Cushman 4000. Perhaps someone could point me to a source of service manuals etc.. Secondly further to the recent discussion of hardwire verses RF trunking, is anyone exploring trunking via the internet? We are presently trunking through a Satellite ( www.iparn.ca ) but with the recent flurry of activity online, can anyone point me in the direction of sites that are experimenting with this.. Thanks Ken VO1ST |

For Sale Posting, and a query.
Kevin K. Custer W3KKC
Hello All,
Because of the high rate of new users to this list (about 10 a day,) I am allowing the posting of "for sale" items twice a week instead of once a week. I will go back to once a week once the list sub rate slows down. I will let you know when (if) that happens. If you have for sale items please post again. Welcome, all you new subscribers. There are now 100 subs to this list. I also have a want. I would like a list of common terminology used in repeater service, and an explanation. Things like Ptt, Cos, PL, Channel Guard, to even more advanced things like BpBr, Desensitization, Duplexing and the such. Please email your Term and well written explanation of one or as many of these as you like. You are not limited to the ones suggested. Submit all to me directly so I can start to assemble them in an orderly fashion. These will be posted on the RBTIP site. General credit will be given to the contributing volunteers. Thanks in advance. Kevin Custer W3KKC List Owner |
List server problems
Kevin K. Custer W3KKC
Many of you who have just joined the server had some trouble
subscribing. This message I am forwarding pertains to the situation. This message originated from the Onelist Team and has not been edited for content. This message was directed to me, the list owner. -------------------------------------------------- Hello, There was a glitch in the ONElist system from Friday evening to Saturday morning. This only affected people who tried to create lists and who subscribed to existing lists. When someone subscribed to a list, they were set to No Post, which means that they couldn't post to the list. Many people also had difficulty creating new lists. Both problems have been fixed. All subscriptions that had No Post set because of this have been fixed. Everything should be back to normal, and moderators do not have to do anything for these fixes. We take pride in our high-level of service, and we sincerely apologize for this glitch. The ONElist Team -------------------------------------------- I actually knew about the problem before this report posted and I had fixed all subscriptions to be allowed to post and not be set for Digest mode. Onelist does try to be the best online email server available at no cost. If you really want to be set for Digest mode (all html and images stripped), or No post, then send an email to me stating this. I would like to take this time to thank all of you who have decided to join, especially those in the last two days. I started this list not quite a week ago and there are already 90 subscribers. This list will succeed, not because of me, but because of you! Kevin |

An I know of a lot of repeaters useing fiberglas ant's but the folded dipole well work better in duplex. As I'am new to the list I don't know what most of you use or like. This is just what I'ev found to be true in the repeaters I'ev been around. Research is a lot cheaper than replacement! ** |

Re: [REPEATERS] Repeater Builder List Server
Kevin K. Custer W3KKC
Hello Chris and All,
My comments to Chris' opinions. "CHRISTOPHER W. (Chris) BOONE" wrote: Kevin,You are allowed to disagree....doesn't mean you're right. 1) the Repeater remailer (now at Onelist) was started forWell some people who subscribe through Juno and other non html based email systems can't receive html, images, and attachments. I am NOT discriminating. They themselves are.. if they choose to use this type email system. This is THEIR choice not mine. (BTW My page states SHOULD NOT .....not DO NOT.) Should not is a suggestion, Do not is discrimination. I do not feel my list is duplication. 3) Sending file attachments THROUGH a remailer is poor practice.Well.... the server I use DOES allow it. I conversed with the technical team before I started this list. They had no problem. .....take a 1 Meg file.....times 300 users....you getMyself and others have sent pix and html through the server. I did not hear anyone complain. If people would not have wanted or or liked this style mailer, WHY do I have 62 subscribers in a mere 6 days? True, Onelist is a commercial site but still setting up a remailerYou are missing the point. What can I say?? You know your self that running a mail server is work. I am not twisting anyone's arm to join. If this mail server helps one person understand something about repeaters, I'll feel better. Another thing on Wasting the servers resources, The server I use does NOT store the actual images and does NOT store the messages indefinitely. That's why you should not join in the Digest mode. So... if a person emails a couple of words and a picture to help some understand a problem, what is then actually stored, (and tying up system resources?) not much. Certainly a whole lot less than a thousand word letter. I know myself that if I had a picture to send along with an explanation, the person on the other end would have understood the matter completely, and subsequent emailings would have been unnecessary. Example: The deemphasis circuit, through a resistor and a cap to ground. A small gif would eliminate any question. Another point is the use of HTML in an email. This list I run allows the use of html based email, and is another reason I started it. You are bashing the use of images, or forwarding a web page in an email posting, But you don't allow it on YOUR list. I believe you exact words are "NO FILE ATTACHMENTS allowed..." now who's discriminating? The use of html based email allows the use of emphasis on lettering and so forth. BTW there IS a Land Mobile Radio remailer on Onelist that hasMaybe they didn't like yours? Also I bet you'll get no posting on the ACC list at LinkcommOh well.... Just my $.02Thank you......
