Re: GE MSTR 2 special (Factory Repeater?) FREE
And it's power supply !!? What is this world coming to???? Being wideband, and I mean very, it was just collecting dust in the leanto. But yea that's how I got started. on .81.
You remember our repeater on Bud's tower ? K Jim W7RY Nov 16 ? #195692??
WHAT? Its GONE!!!

Re: Voter Systems
This is a newly designed product? Could've fooled me, as I don't see a single surface mount component. Even when hand soldering I consider surface mount easier to work with than thru-hole.

Re: Multiple repeaters sharing a common power supply - pros and cons
The big unknown in your case for how big a battery is how long does it take for you to respond if a total power fail occurs. You have to figure the powerloss as time zero, add noticing loss if not monitored and responce time to site with a portable generator or power source, and how long CAN you be without power..
Our ham club which is also the emeregency back up for comms to our county just had a issue where a lightning strike took out the mains to the building and frying one of the RS-50 linear we have. So after power was restored we kept poping the circuit breaker. This was an extreme case that I have only seen 1-2 times in my career, So with the help from another pro radio engineer we devised a total 12v solution for all 4 repeaters we have. Basically as stated before there is one battery that is not excessively large since we don't expect long outages, and is floated by a 12v power supply. This takes care of the time between power loss and generator start up and stabilize. At the same time the station is monitored by an IP control board that blasts a message to as many users as we want. Right now the power supply are the ones that came with our Kenwood stations tied together, if you go with this option make sure you use the same outlet on the same phase for power. Some manufacturers have a beep that occurs with transmission when on battery along with power out drop to extend battery life. I would look at that too. Eventually I have a few Mastr III supplies that actually are made for float charging that we will use in place fo the kenwoods supplies. |

Re: Multiple repeaters sharing a common power supply - pros and cons
Our repeaters are all under a single radio club and everyone is a team player, so I don't anticipate any political issues.? I was nervous about sharing a single power system among multiple repeaters, but now I am beginning to get more comfortable with the idea.
I am using a 30A Iota power supply in my home station, and I love it.? No more need for a changeover switch and the accompanying voltage drop.? We will definitely need to consider replacing our existing repeater supplies with an Iota supply. BTW, I once contacted Iota technical support to ask about adjusting the output voltage.? I got very good, prompt support.? The answer was "You can, but it voids the warranty.".? They even sent me instructions on how to do it. Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful comments and good advice. |

I have to sit down and figure out the per unit price, but I probably won't be able to compete with the price point once labor is factored in. On Wed, Nov 16, 2022 at 6:05 PM Chris Boone <setxtelecom@...> wrote:

Re: GE MSTR 2 special (Factory Repeater?) FREE
If there were an old Moto/GE lowband or hiband radio that would run on 6 Volts and was nearby me.....? I have a 1957 Jeep FC-170 that is still 6 volts and a vintage radio would go well in it.? :-) Eric WB6TIX On Wed, Nov 16, 2022 at 8:07 PM Jim W7RY via <jimw7ry=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Two UHF repeaters sharing the same antenna.
Joe, just as I mentioned in the previous post, it was all off of one DB420. I teed off the feed line with the six can rackmount notch duplexer. I'm trying to remember exactly how I had it tuned but I know I had the first cavity off the tee set to notch the opposite receive frequencies so there would be no suck out on the frequency. And I think the other two were set to notch the opposite transmitters. It was like 20 years ago and it's hard to remember nowadays ? Chris WB5ITT? Any idea on the price, Matt? The current price of the RTCM is expensive for several sites, even with $100 off for the ham price.. like most hams I try to be cheap ? Chris WB5ITT? On Wed, Nov 16, 2022, 2:52 PM DCFluX <dcflux@...> wrote:

Sure, Frank, it might be fun to play with as I have not seeing this model.? Please run over to the web site and send me your email or number. There's enough amateurs going to Spokane that could bring it. Or I can met half way...........
