Chuck, I read your suggestion earlier.? In fact the Motorola Maxar does just that; a resistor sits next to the crystal case.
Some sites are off-grid (very low power consumption, like 50 mA on standby) so that's not an option for me.
I have a State-side vendor for *just* the crystal so that's not an issue.? Idealistically, I was trying to find what ICM did for decodes.
