Donald Duane Radde, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 81.

He was born on June 15, 1942, in Stevensville to Henry and Mollie (Reifschneider) Radde.

Don graduated from Lakeshore High School and attended Northern Michigan School of Banking. Don faithfully worked for Michigan National Bank in Edwardsburg, until he decided to change course and become an entrepreneur. He started by opening Captain's Bar & Restaurant in Buchanan and ended by opening Captain's Pizzeria and Dry Dock by Eagle Lake.

He built a reputation for making great pizzas and was a community favorite. Don also obtained his captain's license and started a fishing charter boat business aboard the Chinooky, home port in St. Joseph. He ran a variety of charters on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie and became known as Captain Don.

Don was an avid outdoorsman and spent as much time as he could in nature. His favorite activities included fishing, hunting, camping and taking care of his yard and vehicles. Not a day went by when Don was didn't spend time outside. He loved to host his annual fish fry and was able to cook for his last one just a couple of days before his passing.

Don was also a sports fanatic. He rarely missed watching his favorite teams play. Don had wonderful neighbors who always looked out for each other and lended a hand whenever needed.

Don loved Mary Lu Rudell and they were married in 2008, enjoying their life together until her passing in 2020. They enjoyed camping and loving their sweet black lab Annie.

Don had a big smile and a hearty laugh that will be missed by many friends and family including: Dennis Radde, Jean Radde, Tim and Mechelle (Radde) Dosmann, David and Holly Radde; and grandchildren: Deven, Daphne, Rylie, Tessa and Sadie; as well as Mary Radde's family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and James Radde.

There will be a small celebration of life for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Don would rather you go fishing or enjoy the outdoors.

Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
