Solid core silicone coated wire ...

Dave,

I sent you 7 strands in an envelope used to mail QSL cards, 16.5cm x 9.2cm.? :-)
The wire lengths are about 15cm and I used painters tape to tape them in rows
to prevent flopping around during machine processing.? Between one QSL card
(filled out) and a large index card cut down to size.? Weight of 0.55oz total.

It is easier for me to read a book on advanced electrodynamics than to read
the charts on the USPS web pages.? Geez.? How does an employee with a high
school degree know all the values?

I sent a small padded envelope with parts to Steve, AA7U, in Tucson, just south
of me and he had to go and pay an additional fee.? I used a table for
padded envelopes on the web page, but someone at the USPS thought the
charge should be for a media mail larger charge.? Over $4 for an
envelope that didn't total 1oz.

I got several small envelopes from an ebay vendor in CA that each
contained 10 HC40/S crystals in a antistatic zip lock critter
that got through the system (and must regularly) with just first
class postage and didn't get ripped by the super sorter. The
zip lock thingy was about 6x5cm or so.

I used to use CD/DVD cardboard envelopes to send out my old
code course on CDs for a buck.? I still have hundreds of the
envelopes and was hoping to send out some PCBs with them.
Have to figure out the postage without having to drive 20mi
to the nearest USPS facility.? Should be $1.64, if I read
the USPS info correctly.? I'll experiment when I get the boards
for the crystal parameter analyzer and a transceiver.

I was supposed to get 20 PCBs last night via Uniuni, but
they didn't show up.? Drivers have problems getting into
a gated community after hours.? I have to call them today
and give them the gate code.? They have a second package of mine
coming that has the completion of the AA7FO memorial
crystal stash.? :-)? Not meth!? Plus SMD chips of LM386s
and NE602s/SA612s.

Maybe this will help.? I'll put several strands in an envelope
to you Saturday, the 31st for you to have a look at and critique
for me.? Along with a QSL card for our QSOs.

Back atcha Chuck. I popped an envelope in the box at my local Post Office early this afternoon.
It will go out with today's mail. It has 2 short lengths of the wire for you to compare with yours.
("Striveday" brand - insulation is very heat resistant, but the solid core is a little too soft for my liking.)
I sandwiched them between 2 QSL's, so hopefully they'll make it through the sorting machines.
Along with the ceramic resonator I just mailed to a builder in MA, these are experiments to see what
will fly with the Post Office and regular letter mail.
As for folk on this board wanting to QSO with each other, I find the HamAlert app very useful for
seeing who's on the air, what frequency, and what mode. Looks as if Jim has been doing quite a
bit of FT8 recently :-)
