Mike that page just shows you what the values
that were originally made.? If you go to Mike's order page you
will see that all he has is the 560pf which I THINK was part
number 23PS156.? The "S" indicates axial.? A "W" indicates
radial.? If you search Mouser "Film Capacitors" you will not see
Xicon listed but they were at least the last to make them and
Mouser does have ONE type in stock.? If you specifically search
for 23PW210 which is a 1000pf radial mount (I hate the axial mount
but that was all I used to be able to find). Anyway you will see
that they have 87 in stock. That link is:
1000pf 87 in stock
I recently placed an order with Mouser for some value and after a
month was told that they could find 4 (repeat FOUR) they could
ship (at $10 shipping for four capacitors weighing less than an
ounce!) and that the manufacturer (Xicon) had obsoleted their
polystyrene capacitors and would not be making any more so my
other 96 pieces got cancellled.
One ebay seller I recently bought some from was LF Components
Inc.? He lists only 3 values available and one is the 23PW210
radial mount:
and his other 2 listings are:
2200pf:
and 23PS110:
Not sure why the 100pf is more than double the price of the
others.? These are all lots of 100.? I had asked him if he had the
value that Mouser back ordered and then could not supply for me
and he said he did not have any and could not get any.? That
should tell you that they are disappearing.
I am not sure if that helps or not or if the information was
useful for others.
Good luck.

I need a 330pF cap for my current project, plus some spares :)

They are a good source of ferrites and other toroids and many other

I think most of us are familiar with Kits and Parts Allison. In fact, their owner/proprietor Mike KU4QO is an active member of this forum, and probably reading this thread. A trusted supplier of toroids, for sure. As Jim WA7DUY pointed out earlier, the page you linked to is a complete list of all the polystyrene capacitors in that series, and not reflective of Michael's current stock which, if you look at the order page at is limited to just the 560pF one (buy 'em up folks!)

Shoot, I think I should order some. Talking of which, I'm going to need some more F37-43's too. Chuck's comment somewhere else in this group recently, made me think that 100 of the critters should last me for the rest of my life, which is a sobering thought when one thinks about it. Perhaps just ordering 25 would give me more hope for the future, and something to look forward to :-)
Aaah, the audiophile connection. It's funny you should mention that Doug, because I've noticed that the CW stations I've received on receivers which have VFO's that are temperature-compensated with polystyrene capacitors, have fuller sounding notes with a very pleasing bottom end :D
?
These prices do make me think that alternates are worth seeking out, as in the example of the polypropylene film caps from Mouser that Jim K8IQY suggested.

<sarcasm>If you want true audiophile quality, I am fairly certain you must gold plate all your leads and build a concrete base for your rig weighing no less than 50kg.? Next up, replace any connections made with silver bearing solder for pure gold for a truly rich sound.</sarcasm>

Very useful info Jim - thank you. I made an offer of $18 for a bag of 100 x 1,000pF caps (the first eBay listing you mentioned) and he accepted. They arrived on Friday (see attached pictures). I don't yet have a good capacitance meter, just a cheapie one, but these pass the initial sniff test and look good. I'm probably pushing it a bit, but I just submitted an offer of $16 for another bag. We'll see if he accepts or counter-offers. If not, I might see if he'll accept another offer for $18, as I think that's a good price. Shoot - I hope I don't lose them for the sake of a few bucks!? :-)
