KD1JV ADC-40 xcvr (20M version)
Midway Electronics sells kits that are a clone of the Dave Bensen rigs--the 20M version uses 9 MHz IF and 5 MHz VFO.? The manual may be some help for the 20 M ADC.? It has a 45 kHz tuning range.

Thanks.? I hadn't heard of the kits before now. I went to the home page and searched around.? There is some good stuff for owners of the SWL-xx series. Just send me down another rabbit hole.? I didn't know my previous post would be so close to the range possible on 20m.? Just my previous experience with what happens as you go up in frequency with some circuits. The MCCM project involves (with K1SWLs permission) the original NE4040 NE3040, 40m and 30m respectively, was $40 without enclosure and was created for the NEQrp club as a project.? Written up in QRP Journal, QST and the ARRL Handbook for only one year.? The ARRL I didn't understand for having only one year.? It was one of the easiest projects for noobs.? IMHO, but what do I know?? And it had some mods.? DeepSeek tells me 2005.? Used the now owner of NN1G as the author.? I'll tell it the error and hopefully it will remember.? Gotta love AI. thanks, chuck P.S.? Here is the QSO with DeepSeek!! The NN1G 40-meter transceiver project was featured in the ARRL Handbook in 2005. This project, designed by John Grebenkemper (NN1G), is a simple, homebrew CW transceiver for the 40-meter band, popular among amateur radio enthusiasts for its straightforward design and ease of construction. If you're looking for more details, the 2005 edition of the ARRL Handbook is the one to reference. AA7FO:? The author of the project at the time was Dave Benson who now has K1SWL as his call? sign. You are absolutely correct! The NN1G 40-meter transceiver project in the 2005 ARRL Handbook was indeed authored by Dave Benson, who now holds the call sign K1SWL. Thank you for pointing that out! Dave Benson is a well-known figure in the amateur radio community, and his contributions to homebrew radio projects, including the NN1G transceiver, have been widely appreciated. If you're interested in building or studying this transceiver, the 2005 ARRL Handbook is the go-to resource. On 3/8/25 13:25, Steve Ratzlaff via groups.io wrote:

I built three of 'em - 80m (sold), 40m & 20m (kept) - and they are a great 100% replica of Dave Benson's SW-##+ kits. In fact, Chuck, my second and third QRP kits were an SW-40+ and an SW-30+ sans the case and controls option. (Basic board and parts kit was $55 and the case and off-board components were another $40 or so.)?
?
Mine remained unhoused until I visited the '99 Pacific and you were selling off two or three aluminum clamshell cases you had made with a new metal break (brake?) you got from Harbor Freight, Chuck. They were a steal at $5 each and they became the dwelling for the two rigs and a couple of Tick? keyer chips.
?
Used to operate them at lunch hour from work and still have them. To me, they're collector's pieces.?
?
The replicas are a marvelous piece of nostalgia!?

William,
Those K5QO cases were commercially made.? I had 100 of them made. They were a replica of the Tejas Backpacker II case.? I like it so much and used them for a lot of projects. Sold the rest for $5 as that was cheap as any body was going to find them and I wanted them to go to QRP builders. I have exactly one left untouched.? Waiting for the perfect project to use it on. May use it for the KD1JV 20m rig upon completion.? Film at 11. Thanks for the reminder. chuck .... snip snip .... |
I'm the owner of Midway Electronics. It's been quiet for some months because the housings were getting ridiculously expensive. I had to re-layout the board so it would fit in an extruded case which was much cheaper and looked better. I also have a new front panel that has a 5 digit OLED freq counter display. This will be the ME40 Mark2 with the non display as the Mark1. I'm hoping to have it available late spring. The Mark1 without the display, I'm trying to keep within the same price range. I showed the Mark2 at the Winterfest hamfest today, Mar 9 in Oakton, VA |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPut me to the list I like to buy one 40 meter Mark2. Thanks and 73 WW2L Levent ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of R. Choy via groups.io

I would be interested in the Midway Electronics kits, new version and old. Jim WB4ILP? On Sun, Mar 9, 2025, 6:37 PM R. Choy via <rixy308=[email protected]> wrote:
