Manhattan Noise Generator

1.? Screenshot...? New Manhattan layout diagram for an AA7FO Noise Generator /w values
2.? 1698.jpg?????? How I mount a transistor with 3 legs on pads. Compact.? IMHO.
3.? 0614.jpg?????? Note diode and resistor lower right have leads soldered to ground plane.
4.? 0617.jpg?????? This is what I do when I have multiple leads going to a pad.? I wait
?????????????????? until I have all leads in place and then solder.? Saves expensive solder.

On the layout diagram.? The dark circles are pads with leads soldered to them.
The leads with multiple circles drawn represent the lead is soldered to the ground plane.

The resistors are mounted in vertical position.? And
1037.jpg
shows what parts mounted end up look like, even though this is with a Muppet board that
K7QO used to make for me.

I have not shown in the layout the specific details on attaching the 9V battery.? I
used the snap on critter that I got in quantity from ebay.? For the output I solder
the ground lug to the ground plane and it serves to give a good solid support to
the BNC connector.? Think outside the box for your own.

FYI.? Just wanted to clarify for the new Manhattan builders for now and in the
future.? Download the photos so you don't have to go looking for them.
I hope 1037.jpg looks OK.? It did with one viewer, but enlarged for view with
thunderbird for some reason.

I was just on the QRP Guys website reading the assembly manual and operating manual for your noise bridge and then found your "Manhattan Noise Bridge" in my email.
Thanks Chuck !??
What contact cement do you recommend for the Manhattan pads?

I'm using Super Glue for Gorilla.? It sets up a little after 10 secs.
I tried Loctite and it takes longer, which might be better for some conditions
where you need more time.

I prefer the tip applicator for the Loctite as it is smaller.
I'm too scared to try putting the glue in a syringe for fear that it'll
just freeze up in the thing and the experiment was a failure.

But, at the instant you touch the top of the pad with the iron, you are going
to get instant set.? That's the nature of the beast.

Found both at Home Depot around $8 USD for 10 gms.? The gorilla bottle
is 3 times the size of the contents, so it looks like a good deal, but it's
about the same.? Marketing at its best.

I like ¡°medium¡± CA found at any hobby shop or online vendor that markets to those who still build balsa wood flying model airplanes. ¡°Medium¡± refers to viscosity, which affects set time. ¡°CA¡± is short for cyanoacrylate, which is what superglue is (loctite and gorilla discussed above are CA.)
?
CA relies on humidity/moisture to set; if you need to speed it up, you can pay for ¡°kicker¡± that comes in a little squirt bottle that atomizes a fine spray of something that smells like almonds and is probably carcinogenic. Or you can get a little travel-size atomizer and mist the joint with water. I find that huffing on it, as one would before wiping lenses on a pair of reading glasses, works equally well.
?
For situations involving the inadvertent fusing of fingertips, or an incorrectly placed part, one can purchase purpose-marketed ¡°debonder,¡± which is basically acetone. Acetone will dissolve cured CA.
?
The dollar store sells blister packs of small, single use, metal toothpaste tubes, of very thick CA gel.
